Full job description

The Horse & Groom is an award-winning pub restaurant with ten bedrooms, set in the village of East Ashling at the foot of the South Downs National Park. With 2 AA Rosettes, an extensive wine list, and a strong events programme, we are known for warm, professional service and a relaxed but well-run operation.

We are seeking a Breakfast and Prep Chef to take responsibility for preparing and delivering breakfast service while supporting the kitchen with high-quality prep for the day ahead. This role will suit someone who is organised, reliable, and takes pride in producing consistently excellent food in a calm, efficient manner.

You will be confident working independently in the mornings, maintaining excellent food hygiene and kitchen standards, and ensuring breakfast service runs smoothly and efficiently for both guests and the wider team.

Key requirements

· At least two years’ experience in a professional kitchen or similar food preparation role

· Ability to prepare and deliver high-quality breakfast dishes with consistency and attention to detail

· Strong prep skills, good kitchen organisation, and a clear understanding of food hygiene and safety standards

· Able to work efficiently under pressure and manage time effectively during busy service periods

· Reliability, punctuality, and flexibility to work mornings, weekends, and bank holidays

· Flexibility to support changing business needs, including assisting with prep, service, and varying shift patterns when required

Package

  • Salary £22,750, equivalent to £14.50/hr.
  • Contractual hours – 30 per week
  • Share of gratuities, estimated in excess of £500 per month pro rata to hours worked.

  • 20 days annual holiday allowance pro rata plus days in lieu of working bank holidays.
