Our client, a highly regarded co-educational independent 11–18 school in Reading, is seeking an innovative, skilled and forward-thinking Design & Technology Teacher to join their thriving Design and Innovation Faculty from January 2026. The appointed teacher will teach Design & Technology across KS3–KS5, with specialism in Product Design, Engineering, or Resistant Materials depending on experience. The curriculum places strong emphasis on problem-solving, design thinking, sustainability and the role of technology in shaping the future. Students are encouraged to develop both technical precision and creative imagination through practical project work and theoretical study.

You will guide pupils through each stage of the design process—from research and ideation to prototyping, CAD development and final product execution. The role also offers opportunities to lead enrichment activities, including STEM initiatives, design competitions, sustainability projects and collaborative ventures with the Art, Computing and Science Departments.

Experience and Qualifications

  • QTS/PGCE and a degree in Design & Technology, Product Design, Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience teaching DT at GCSE and A-Level (independent school experience advantageous)
  • Excellent working knowledge of CAD/CAM, 3D printing, materials technology and workshop machinery
  • Strong workshop and safety management skills
  • A passion for creativity, innovation, sustainability and practical design education
  • Excellent communication, organisation and collaborative ability
