Job Description:
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accountant to join our financial team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing statutory and management reports, and ensuring full compliance with UK accounting and tax regulations. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your expertise within a dynamic organisation, utilising a wide range of accounting software and financial management tools. This is a paid position suitable for candidates eager to contribute to organisational growth through precise financial oversight, efficient bookkeeping, and high-quality client service.
Key Responsibilities
Perform bookkeeping using Xero (and other platforms such as QuickBooks, Sage, or FreeAgent), including posting invoices, managing bank feeds, and performing reconciliations. Prepare statutory accounts in accordance with UK GAAP and relevant accounting standards. Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements and management reports using accounting software. Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payment cycles and accurate documentation.Conduct bank reconciliations and supplier statement reconciliations, resolving discrepancies promptly. Prepare and file VAT Returns in compliance with MTD (Making Tax Digital) requirements. Support preparation of Self Assessment Tax Returns (SATR) and assist with year-end accounts for sole traders and small companies.Prepare and assist with corporation tax computations and related filings. Manage client documents, queries, and deadlines efficiently to maintain strong client relationships. Liaise with clients professionally via email, phone, or client portal, responding to queries and offering guidance where required.Support senior accountants with ad-hoc accounting and administrative tasks. Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
Experience & Essential Requirements
ACCA Affiliate or ACCA Member, or actively working towards membership. Minimum 3 years of practical accounting experience in a UK practice or similar financial environment. Proven experience with Xero (preferred), and familiarity with QuickBooks, FreeAgent, or Sage.Strong knowledge of UK tax legislation, UK GAAP, accounting standards, and financial regulations. Practical experience in bookkeeping, VAT preparation, SATR, corporation tax basics, and financial reporting. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including professionalism in client telephone and email communication.Demonstrated ability to manage client deadlines, resolve queries efficiently, and maintain high accuracy under pressure.Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Proven ability to mentor colleagues and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment.
Working Conditions
Hybrid working model, including regular meetings with internal team members.Standard working hours: 37.5 hours per week (9:00 AM – 5:30 PM, 1-hour lunch break). Occasional extended hours may be required to meet deadlines (with time off in lieu where appropriate).
