This role offers a starting salary within Nacro’s pay structure of £46,150 with expected progression to £47,535 within the first year, subject to meeting clear criteria and performance standards, with further pay progression available in the future. We're looking for a Financial Accountant to join our Finance team and play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong financial controls and supporting the organisation's financial performance.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you'll be responsible for producing high-quality financial information, supporting month-end and year-end processes, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and VAT regulations, and identifying opportunities to improve financial systems and processes. You'll also provide line management and development support to Finance Assistants while working closely with colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative Finance team. As we continue to strengthen our Finance function, you'll play a key role in improving financial reporting, enhancing controls and providing the insight that supports better organisational decision-making. What you'll be doing

As Financial Accountant, you'll play a central role in ensuring the smooth running of Nacro's financial operations by:

  • Supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts, journals and reconciliations.
  • Coordinating month-end and year-end close activities while maintaining key balance sheet and control accounts.
  • Supporting the preparation of statutory accounts and external audit requirements.
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns in accordance with HMRC requirements.
  • Completing and reviewing bank reconciliations, monitoring cash flow and supporting treasury activities.
  • Maintaining the integrity of financial systems and identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and reporting.
  • Providing line management, coaching and development to Finance Assistants, helping to build a collaborative and high-performing team.
  • Building positive relationships with budget holders and colleagues across the organisation, providing financial advice, responding to queries and supporting effective financial decision-making.

You'll be someone who

  • Is fully or part qualified (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, CIPFA or equivalent).
  • Has experience working in a financial accounting role within a large or complex organisation.
  • Has strong experience of financial reporting, month-end and year-end processes, reconciliations, journals and VAT returns.
  • Has experience managing or supervising colleagues and enjoys supporting others to develop.
  • Has excellent Microsoft Excel and financial systems skills, with experience of ERP systems such as NetSuite, Oracle or SAP being desirable.
  • Has exceptional attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate work while managing competing priorities.
  • Is a confident communicator who can build effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Takes a proactive approach to problem solving, continuously looking for ways to improve financial processes and systems.
  • Ideally has experience within the charity sector and knowledge of Charity SORP.
