About the Role

We're seeking an experienced and hands-on Manufacturing Machinist to join our growing production team. This role is ideal for someone with strong machining, grinding, fabrication, and mechanical assembly experience who enjoys working within a precision engineering environment.

You’ll play a key role in the manufacture and development of high-quality accelerometers and vibration monitoring products used in demanding aerospace and industrial applications. The role will involve machining and processing precision components, including cylindrical grinding operations, supporting prototype and production builds and working closely with engineering teams to ensure products are manufactured efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

Working across a variety of manufacturing activities, you will be responsible for operating manual workshop machinery, carrying out precision grinding operations, assembling components, conducting quality inspections, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives

This is a varied and practical role suited to someone who enjoys problem-solving, precision manufacturing, and taking ownership of producing high-quality components and assemblies within a technically advanced production environment.

Machining, Grinding & Fabrication

· Operate manual machinery including lathes, pillar drills, and other workshop equipment to manufacture precision mechanical components.

· Set and operate manual and CNC cylindrical grinding machines to produce high-precision components to tight tolerances and exacting quality standards.

· Operate lathes and apply a variety of welding techniques during the manufacturing process to support the production and assembly of components and fixtures.

· Assembling components using engineering drawings, technical specifications, and build documentation.

· Support prototype and low-volume production activities, adapting machining methods where required to support product development.

· Select, maintain and dress grinding wheels, tooling, fixtures, and machine setups to maximise efficiency and component quality.

Product Assembly & Fabrication

· Assemble mechanical components with accuracy and precision, following detailed technical drawings, work instructions, and build specifications.

· Ensure all builds are completed to company quality standards and within specified timeframes to meet production targets.

· Work to tight tolerances and quality standards, maintaining attention to detail throughout all stages of assembly.

· Identify potential design or build issues early in the assembly process and escalate to relevant teams to avoid production delays.

Fault Diagnosis & Testing:

· Conduct product testing and troubleshooting to identify, diagnose, and rectify faults or issues in equipment and components, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

· Collaborate with engineering and quality departments to resolve repeat faults or systemic issues.

· Accurately record all test results, fault findings, and corrective actions taken, contributing to ongoing product improvement

Quality Assurance:

· Carry out finishing, deburring, fitting, and precision mechanical assembly activities to ensure components meet required quality standards.

· Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and manufacturing instructions accurately.

· Complete required documentation including build records, inspection reports, quality control checklists, and non-conformance reports.

· Identify potential manufacturing or quality issues early and work with engineering and quality teams to implement corrective actions.

· Review technical drawings and build instructions, identifying opportunities to improve manufacturability and reduce waste or production issues.

· Work in accordance with the company’s Quality Management System, following all quality assurance procedures throughout the production process to ensure that each product meets internal and customer-defined standards.

· Contribute to product audits and support investigations into quality issues or customer returns, ensuring robust corrective actions are implemented.

Health & Safety Compliance:

· Follow all safe working practices and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment. Adhere strictly to all Health & Safety policies and procedures, reporting hazards or unsafe practices promptly.

· Wear all relevant personal protective equipment (PPE) issued by the company.

· Ensure tools and machinery are operated correctly and safely, and that safety guards and controls are always in place.

Collaboration & Communication:

· Work closely with colleagues in production, engineering, design, and logistics to ensure effective workflow and timely delivery of products.

· Attend team briefings to stay up to date on production schedules, changes, and improvement initiatives.

· Support new team members or apprentices by sharing knowledge, skills, and best practices when appropriate.

Continuous Improvement & Flexibility:

· Take part in Lean manufacturing, 5S/6S, and other continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing waste.

· Provide suggestions for improving build methods, reducing downtime, or enhancing product quality.

Resource & Equipment Care:

· Take responsibility for company tools and equipment, ensuring they are used correctly, stored securely, and maintained in good working condition reporting any loss or damage immediately.

Professional Development:

· Take ownership of your personal development by actively participating in training, development opportunities, and continuous improvement initiatives.

· Actively engage in training programs to build new skills and stay current with production techniques and safety practices.

Customer Focus:

· Understand the importance of internal and external customer satisfaction. Support operational efficiency and quality to meet sales targets, contract obligations, and customer expectations.
