Job Overview:
We are looking for a cabling engineer to join our field team to undertake projects to industry standards in a professional manner and within agreed timescales. You will use initiative when faced with a problem, be proactive and liaise with customers in a courteous and helpful manner. This work is to test rod & rope (TTR) in existing BT (duct) network. Once the routes are proved this will lead to the full build which will require the installation of fibre optic cable through to termination at the end customer premise.


  • Installation of optical fibre cable, bundles and blown fibre tubing using fibre blowing equipment to required standards, including fault finding on existing network.
  • Splicing and testing of external optical fibres to the end customer premise in line with quality standards using OTDR /ILM/PMD/CD/EXFO FTB200 or similar.
  • Installation of Cat6 and Cat6a cabling
  • Termination of Cat6/6a and fibre Panels
  • Termination of Cat6/6a wall outlets
  • Conducting onsite cabling surveys (including detailed documentation)
  • Experience within a hands-on trade and tools.
  • Excellent customer service skills, as you will be visiting households and businesses.
  • Be motivated and be able to work independently as well be a team player.
  • Able to work in manholes and aerial plant; you are comfortable and willing to work at heights or in confined spaces when required.
  • Able to prepare, splice and troubleshoot fibre optical cable.
  • Able to install, repair and maintain fibre optic splice closures and distribution panels.
  • Able to work outside of normal working hours when required.
  • Use and understand OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) and Power Meter
  • Adherence with Health and Safety legislation, working safely using gate guard and signage as appropriate.


  • Minimum three years installation experience, internally and externally, of various grades of fibre optic cabling with various termination types; Have a proven track of record of fibre optic splicing.
  • Sign, Lighting & Guarding (street works).
  • SA002 UG Safety Card.
  • SA001 OH Safety Card.
  • K8 Test Rodding & Roping.
  • Confines spaces (medium risk).
  • Experienced in TRR and sub-duct.
  • Full right to work in UK unrestricted.
  • Full Driving License
  • Safety underground
