Vegetation Clearance & Grounds Maintenance Operative – Utilities
Join the Future of Infrastructure with Eco-Power Solutions
Eco-Power Solutions is growing, and we're looking for experienced Vegetation Clearance & Grounds Maintenance Operatives to join our expanding team, supporting the delivery of specialist vegetation management, tree clearance and site maintenance works across the UK's energy and utilities infrastructure.
This is a varied, hands-on opportunity for someone with practical experience in vegetation clearance, grounds maintenance, forestry or arboricultural works who wants to become part of a forward-thinking engineering and infrastructure business.
With a growing portfolio of work supporting major gas distribution networks and other infrastructure providers, we're looking for individuals who are confident operating chainsaws, comfortable working outdoors and capable of undertaking a wide range of vegetation and site maintenance activities.
Why Join Us?
Eco-Power Solutions is a specialist engineering and infrastructure services company delivering high-quality works across the energy, utilities and wider infrastructure sectors.
Our services range from civil engineering and mechanical maintenance through to vegetation management, site clearance and specialist asset maintenance.
Based in Doncaster, we operate predominantly across Yorkshire, the East Midlands and the East of England, supporting major infrastructure clients with planned and reactive works.
We're known for our practical approach, commitment to safety and investment in our people. As our business continues to grow, we're looking for skilled individuals who want to develop their careers alongside us.
What You'll Do
As a Vegetation Clearance & Grounds Maintenance Operative, you'll support the delivery of planned and reactive works across a variety of operational infrastructure sites.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking scrub clearance, brush cutting and vegetation removal along gas pipeline routes, easements and operational infrastructure sites.
- Safely operating chainsaws to undertake ground-based tree felling, cross-cutting, branch removal and timber processing within your qualifications and competence.
- Carrying out tree and shrub clearance, including the removal of small trees, overhanging vegetation and other identified obstructions.
- Undertaking routine grounds maintenance, including grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming and general vegetation management.
- Supporting planned site husbandry programmes at gas installations, compounds and other operational utility assets.
- Clearing vegetation from fences, access routes, equipment compounds, signage and operational areas.
- Operating brush cutters, hedge trimmers, pole pruners, wood chippers and other specialist equipment where trained and competent.
- Supporting site clearance activities, including the collection, processing and appropriate disposal of green waste and vegetation arisings.
- Assisting with fencing repairs, minor site maintenance and associated general works where required.
- Supporting aerial tree operations and climbing activities where suitably qualified and authorised.
- Working in accordance with risk assessments, method statements, environmental requirements and client-specific safety procedures.
- Completing basic site records, photographic evidence and reporting any safety, environmental or asset concerns to the site supervisor.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
This is a varied role involving practical outdoor work, often in remote locations or around operational infrastructure. You'll need to be adaptable, safety-conscious and willing to support different activities depending on project requirements.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with genuine practical experience, a strong work ethic and a professional approach to delivering safe, high-quality work.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in vegetation clearance, forestry, arboriculture, grounds maintenance or similar outdoor operations.
- Recognised NPTC, Lantra or equivalent chainsaw qualifications covering maintenance, cross-cutting and ground-based felling of small trees (formerly CS30/CS31).
- Practical experience operating chainsaws safely in a commercial working environment.
- Experience using vegetation management equipment, including brush cutters, strimmers and hedge trimmers, with appropriate training and competence.
- A full UK driving licence.
- A good understanding of site safety, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- A reliable, flexible approach and willingness to work across different locations and activities.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and take responsibility for completing assigned activities safely and efficiently.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
The following would be advantageous, although they are not essential:
- NPTC/Lantra tree climbing and aerial rescue qualifications (formerly CS38).
- NPTC/Lantra chainsaw use from a rope and harness (formerly CS39).
- Additional tree felling, aerial pruning or aerial rigging qualifications.
- Wood chipper and powered pole pruner qualifications.
- PA1 and PA6 pesticide application qualifications.
- CSCS or relevant industry safety card.
- CPCS or NPORS plant operator qualifications.
- Emergency first aid at work, particularly forestry or arboricultural first aid.
- Experience working on gas, electricity, water or other operational utility infrastructure sites.
- Previous experience delivering commercial vegetation management or planned grounds maintenance contracts.
Candidates with climbing qualifications and proven aerial tree work experience will be particularly welcomed, with remuneration reflecting their additional skills and competence.
Team Leader & Operative Opportunities
We would also welcome applications from established two-person teams operating under a Team Leader and Operative (Mate) arrangement. This model is particularly attractive to Eco-Power Solutions as we continue to expand our vegetation clearance and grounds maintenance services.
Ideally, the Team Leader would hold the relevant chainsaw qualifications and have experience supervising and delivering vegetation clearance works, supported by a reliable and capable operative.
We are particularly interested in teams who can take ownership of allocated work packages, organise their daily activities and deliver works safely and efficiently with minimal supervision.
We are happy to consider experienced teams who already work well together, with remuneration reflecting their combined skills, qualifications and experience.
If you're currently working as part of an established two-person team, we'd be keen to hear from you both.
What You'll Get
- Competitive remuneration based on experience, qualifications and practical ability.
- Long-term opportunities supporting established energy and infrastructure clients.
- A varied working environment covering vegetation management, tree works and operational site maintenance.
- Opportunities to gain further industry qualifications and accreditations.
- Ongoing training and professional development.
- Opportunities for progression into Team Leader and supervisory positions as our services continue to expand.
- The chance to join a growing business that values reliability, competence and a strong commitment to safety.
We are open to considering applications from individuals seeking a directly employed position or suitable self-employed subcontractor arrangements.
An attractive remuneration package will be offered in line with experience, qualifications and the responsibilities undertaken.
Interested?
If you're an experienced operative with chainsaw qualifications and a background in vegetation management, grounds maintenance or arboricultural works, we'd like to hear from you.
Equally, if you're an established Team Leader and Mate looking for long-term opportunities with a growing infrastructure business, we encourage you to apply together.
Please apply with your CV, outlining your relevant experience, qualifications and any additional specialist tickets held.
