AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE ENGINEERS & CHIEF ENGINEER

North Weald Airfield, Essex

Salary: £25,000–£85,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, licence privileges and level of responsibility

FT Aero is expanding its UK Part-CAO light-aircraft engineering and continuing airworthiness operation at North Weald Airfield.

We are recruiting at several levels, from developing Aircraft Maintenance Engineers through to experienced Licensed Engineers and a senior Chief Engineer.

As a UK Part-CAO organisation, our operation brings together aircraft maintenance and continuing airworthiness management. This provides an opportunity to work closely with both the practical maintenance and airworthiness-management sides of general aviation.

THE ROLES

Depending on your experience and level of appointment, responsibilities may include:

• Carrying out scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance
• Inspecting, servicing, repairing and troubleshooting light aircraft
• Diagnosing faults and completing defect rectification
• Completing maintenance records and technical documentation accurately
• Certifying maintenance within the privileges of your licence and company authorisation
• Planning and supervising aircraft maintenance activities
• Supporting continuing airworthiness management activities
• Liaising closely with airworthiness-management and technical-records personnel
• Reviewing maintenance requirements, aircraft status and technical information
• Maintaining high standards of safety, quality and regulatory compliance
• Supporting and mentoring trainee, apprentice and developing engineers
• Managing workloads, tooling, facilities, equipment, parts and technical records
• Helping to develop FT Aero’s Part-CAO engineering and continuing airworthiness operation

CHIEF ENGINEER APPLICANTS

Applicants interested in the Chief Engineer position should have substantial general aviation maintenance experience and proven senior-certifying, supervisory or engineering-management experience.

The successful senior candidate will lead the day-to-day engineering operation and work closely with FT Aero’s continuing airworthiness and management teams.

The candidate should be capable of gaining UK CAA acceptance as the relevant Nominated Person/Postholder, subject to formal CAA approval.

Responsibilities may include:

• Leading and managing the engineering team
• Ensuring compliance with applicable UK CAA requirements
• Ensuring work is completed in accordance with the Combined Airworthiness Exposition and approved procedures
• Overseeing maintenance planning, supervision and certification
• Managing engineering facilities, tooling, equipment and resources
• Supporting compliance, organisational reviews and continuous improvement
• Developing engineers, trainees and apprentices
• Helping shape the future growth of the engineering department

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should have some or all of the following, depending on the position:

• Experience in aircraft maintenance, engineering or a closely related technical environment
• Experience working on light aircraft or within general aviation
• A current and relevant UK CAA Part-66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence for licensed positions
• B1.2, B3 or equivalent privileges relevant to our aircraft and approval scope would be advantageous
• Strong practical, diagnostic and fault-finding skills
• Knowledge of aircraft maintenance programmes, technical records and continuing airworthiness requirements
• Familiarity with UK Part-CAO procedures would be advantageous
• A safety-conscious, organised and dependable approach
• The ability to work independently and as part of a close-knit team
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Leadership or supervisory experience for senior positions

Applicants without a Part-66 licence may still be considered for suitable trainee, developing or non-certifying engineering positions.
