The Role….

The Commercial Gas Engineer / Apprentice Supervisor will play a key role within the Heating Department, supporting the supervisors and manager with the development and day-to-day supervision of apprentices, while continuing to carry out hands-on duties as a mobile Commercial Gas Service Engineer.

The role will be responsible for helping apprentices develop their technical knowledge, practical skills, confidence and competency, while ensuring Airco’s high standards of workmanship, service, safety and customer care are consistently maintained.

Alongside these supervisory responsibilities, you will carry out service, maintenance, reactive and installation works across a variety of commercial customer sites. This will include installing, servicing and maintaining a wide range of commercial boilers and associated plant and equipment, with a focus on delivering a high-quality service, minimising disruption to customers and achieving first-time fixes wherever possible.

You will be expected to take a proactive approach to health and safety, maintain a safe working environment at all times and provide a professional and reliable service to our customers, while setting a positive example for the apprentices you are supporting.

Salary: Up to £20 per hour - Dependent on experience

What will you do….

• Carry out commercial gas servicing, maintenance, reactive repairs, remedial works and installations across a range of customer sites.
• Diagnose faults efficiently and provide appropriate technical solutions, with a strong focus on first-time fix.
• Support the Service team with technical information, parts identification and remedial quotations.
• Complete all required documentation accurately and within the required timescales.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship, customer service, health and safety and compliance at all times.
• Provide day-to-day technical support, coaching and mentoring to Heating Apprentices.
• Support Apprentices in developing their technical skills, confidence, independence and overall competency.
• Monitor Apprentice performance and progression, providing clear and constructive feedback.
• Identify training and development needs and work with the Heating Department, Service team and training providers to support progression.
• Help ensure Apprentices receive a balanced programme of experience across servicing, maintenance, reactive works, remedials and installations.
• Support with Apprentice allocation, work rotas, call-out arrangements and weekly timesheet reviews.
• Deliver Toolbox Talks and promote safe working practices across the Apprentice team.
• Address performance, conduct or safety concerns promptly and escalate where appropriate.
• Support Apprentice recruitment, assessment days, interviews and practical assessments where required.
• Maintain strong working relationships with customers, colleagues, managers and training providers.
• Represent Airco professionally at all times and act as a positive role model for Apprentices.
• Participate in the Company’s on-call rota, currently 1 in 6 for the Heating team.

Who are we looking for…..

• An experienced and confident Commercial Gas Engineer with the necessary Commercial ACS Gas qualifications: COCN1, CDGA1, CIGA1, CCP1, ICPN1 and TPCP1.
• Ideally, a minimum of 5 years’ experience working within commercial gas.
• Qualified to NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing & Heating.
• Previous experience of directly managing, supervising or mentoring a team.
• An eye for detail and a desire to work to a very high standard.
• A flexible approach to work.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with previous experience liaising with commercial stakeholders.
• The ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
• Full UK driving licence.
• IT competent.
• Able to successfully complete a DBS check.
