Overtime: Paid at time and a half for hours worked over 40 per week
Hours: Normally 8:30am–5:30pm
Position: Permanent, full-time

About the role
Secker & Sons is an established refrigeration and air-conditioning business, operating since 1947. We are looking for an Air Conditioning Installation Engineer to join our team, installing systems in commercial and residential properties.
The successful candidate will be capable of working independently, with support from an installation assistant. Commercial installation experience, including VRF/VRV and heat recovery systems, would be advantageous but is not essential. The hourly rate offered will reflect the candidate’s experience and capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Install commercial and residential air-conditioning systems, including associated pipework, drainage, electrical connections and controls.
- Pressure-test, evacuate, commission and test systems in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions and industry standards.
- Read and work from installation drawings and manufacturers’ specifications.
- Plan and organise day-to-day installation work.
- Supervise and guide an installation assistant.
- Diagnose and rectify installation-related faults.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, health and safety and customer care.
- Work effectively with colleagues, customers and other trades.
- Complete installation, commissioning and handover documentation accurately.
- Participate in the company’s standby rota.
Candidate requirements
Essential
- Air-conditioning installation experience and the ability to work independently.
- Current F-Gas Category 1 qualification.
- Recognised hydrocarbon refrigerant handling qualification level 3
- Relevant refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat-pump qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent industry experience.
- Full UK driving licence.
- A practical and organised approach, with good communication skills.
- Willingness to undertake both commercial and residential installations.
- Willingness to participate in the company’s standby rota.
Desirable
- Experience installing commercial VRF/VRV and heat recovery systems.
- Experience commissioning and diagnosing faults on commercial air-conditioning systems.
- CSCS or other relevant skills card.
- Manufacturer-specific training.
Pay and benefits
- £17–£22 per hour, depending on experience.
- Overtime paid at time and a half after 40 hours per week.
- Company van.
- Company-provided tools and uniform.
- Company mobile phone or allowance for using a personal phone.
- Workplace pension.
- Paid annual leave.
- Training and opportunities to develop technical skills.
- Standby and call-out payments in addition to the basic hourly rate.
Standby arrangements
Participation in the company’s standby rota is currently required. However, the existing weekday 24-hour call-out service and the categories of work requiring an out-of-hours response are under review. The intention is to develop a more sustainable arrangement that gives engineers greater predictability outside normal working hours while continuing to provide appropriate emergency support to customers.
Optional away work
The role is primarily local to Norfolk and Suffolk. Engineers who wish to undertake away work may have opportunities to support approximately two or three projects each year, typically lasting between two and six weeks.
Away work is optional. Premier Inn or similar accommodation is arranged and paid for by the company, together with a £30-per-night subsistence allowance.
Pay: £17.00-£22.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
Work Location: On the road
