Air Conditioning Installation Improver

Cool Guys Air Conditioning Ltd

London, M25 and South East

£150–£200 per day starting range, with higher rates considered for proven skills. Plus job performance bonuses and optional extra work at time and a half.

Develop your installation skills, take on more responsibility and earn more as you progress.

Cool Guys Air Conditioning is looking for an installation improver with practical air-conditioning experience to work on domestic and commercial projects.

You’ll start alongside an experienced engineer, developing the skills and confidence to take suitable installations from start to finish. As you demonstrate the qualifications, workmanship and judgement needed, your responsibilities and pay will increase, with a company van supplied when you progress to independent work.

If you already bring stronger installation skills, tell us what you can confidently deliver—we’re open to agreeing a higher starting rate.

What you’ll get

  • Monday–Friday work available, with a mix of domestic and commercial installations.
  • An eight-hour site day, including a paid 30-minute lunch break. Travel time is unpaid.
  • Optional overtime, weekend and out-of-hours work paid at time and a half, where available.
  • Job performance bonuses on eligible installations, rewarding efficient delivery, quality workmanship and agreed profitability. The criteria, calculation and payment terms are agreed before each eligible job.
  • Installation and refrigeration tools supplied.
  • A company van for work use when you progress to suitable independent installations.
  • Work expenses covered, including work fuel and parking charges, using company cards.
  • No current on-call rota. Overnight stays only by agreement.

During the supervised stage, you’ll meet the team on site or at an agreed point along the route.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll help install indoor and outdoor units, supports, containment, pipework and condensate drainage. There will also be occasional servicing and maintenance.

Your tasks and supervision will match your qualifications and competence. As you develop, you can take responsibility for suitable installations, testing, commissioning and customer handover.

We care about the details: a tidy finish, protecting customers’ properties, identifying problems early and leaving clear completion records. You’ll use JobLogic for job information, photographs and notes; previous experience with it is helpful but not essential.

What we’re looking for

  • Hands-on experience assisting with air-conditioning installations.
  • Knowledge of commissioning split and VRV/VRF air-conditioning systems, including testing, start-up checks and accurate commissioning records.
  • An F-gas qualification appropriate to air-conditioning installation work — essential.
  • A valid CSCS card — essential.
  • Practical ability and pride in your workmanship.
  • Reliability, clear communication and a willingness to learn.
  • The judgement to recognise when you need guidance.
  • A full driving licence valid in the UK.
  • Confidence using a smartphone or tablet for job records.

Desirable qualifications include an NVQ Level 2 in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, SSSTS, IPAF and PASMA. These are useful additions, not essential requirements. Please list the qualifications and cards you hold.

Engagement and payment

The initial opportunity is offered on a self-employed subcontract basis. Suitable public liability insurance and any business certification required for the work must be in place before undertaking it.

Submit your invoice on the second-to-last Friday of each month, with payment on the last Friday of that month.

An employed position may also be considered by mutual agreement.
