STRICTLY NO AGENCIES/RECRUITMENT COMPANIES

Are you seeking stability, the chance to be part of a professional and experienced team, and a regular income with progression opportunities? Join Spartan Mechanical Ltd and take the next step in your engineering career.

About Us:
Spartan Mechanical Ltd is an established mechanical services contractor founded in 2011. From our office in Hook, Hampshire, we provide commercial heating, plumbing, gas, HVAC and renewable services across the South of England and London.

We support a range of commercial clients with planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, fault-finding, servicing, installations and project works.

The Opportunity:
We are looking for an experienced Air Conditioning Engineer to join our growing team. Experience in ventilation systems would be an advantage, with opportunities to develop this side of the role through training and practical experience.

This is a hands-on position suited to someone who can confidently service, diagnose, repair and install commercial air conditioning systems. You will work independently, communicate professionally with clients and take ownership of jobs from initial attendance through to completion.

The position offers long-term stability, varied work, ongoing training and genuine progression within the company.

Location: Based from Hook, Hampshire, covering sites across the South of England and London.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain and repair commercial air conditioning systems, including split, multi-split and VRV/VRF systems
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical and refrigerant-related faults
  • Install, test and commission air conditioning systems
  • Undertake planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs
  • Carry out refrigerant recovery, leak testing and charging within your qualifications and competence
  • Complete accurate service records, test results and refrigerant documentation
  • Identify defects and recommend repairs, replacements or efficiency improvements
  • Manage individual jobs and smaller installations through to completion
  • Provide clear technical reports, photographs and recommendations
  • Liaise professionally with clients, site representatives and the office team
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship, housekeeping and health and safety
  • Support junior engineers, improvers and apprentices where appropriate

Depending on your experience, the role may also include servicing, fault-finding and installation work on ventilation systems, including air handling units, extract fans and heat recovery units.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • Proven experience in commercial air conditioning installation, servicing and maintenance
  • F-Gas Category 1 certification
  • Strong fault-finding skills across split, multi-split and VRV/VRF systems
  • A sound understanding of associated electrical controls and safe working practices
  • The ability to read technical information and follow manufacturers’ instructions
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Good customer service, communication and written reporting skills

The following would be advantageous:

  • An NVQ, City & Guilds qualification or equivalent in refrigeration and air conditioning
  • Experience with ventilation systems, air handling units and heat recovery systems
  • Experience diagnosing airflow, fan and ventilation control faults
  • Relevant manufacturer training
  • Broader mechanical or building services experience
  • Experience supporting junior engineers or managing smaller projects

Ventilation experience is welcomed but is not essential for an otherwise strong air conditioning engineer.

What We’re Looking For

  • A professional, friendly and approachable manner
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • A methodical approach to fault-finding and problem-solving
  • High standards of workmanship and personal presentation
  • A positive attitude and commitment to delivering quality work
  • Willingness to learn, support others and develop your skills
  • Openness to feedback and continuous improvement

Salary and Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience
  • Company van and fuel card
  • Overtime and call-out opportunities
  • Performance-related bonus opportunities
  • Private medical insurance
  • Company pension scheme
  • Gym membership
  • Health and wellbeing programme
  • Employee referral programme
  • Company events and team-building activities
  • Power tools, test equipment and uniform provided
  • Ongoing training and manufacturer courses
  • Opportunities to develop your skills in ventilation, renewables and wider mechanical services
  • Genuine long-term career progression, including opportunities to move into supervisory or management roles
