Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineer
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum, DOE
Hours: 40+ hours per week + evening and weekend on-call rota
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineer to join a well-established facilities and engineering services business that provides specialist refrigeration and air conditioning support to a large network of customer sites across the UK.
The company has a strong focus on delivering reliable, high-quality engineering solutions and maintaining critical equipment to ensure customers can continue operating effectively. Due to continued growth, they are looking for a field-based engineer with a strong bias towards refrigeration, ideally based in the Teesside area, to cover customer outlets predominantly across the North East.
The Role:
As a Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
You will work closely with customers and the wider field engineering team to diagnose faults, minimise equipment downtime and ensure customer sites remain fully operational.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules within agreed timeframes and budgets.
- Carry out planned and reactive refrigeration and air conditioning maintenance safely and to a consistently high standard.
- Proactively diagnose faults, failures and issues with equipment and systems.
- Identify effective solutions and escalate more complex issues where required.
- Support improvements in customer service, operational performance and productivity.
- Help maximise asset uptime and first-time fix rates.
- Build positive working relationships with customers and colleagues.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with relevant health, safety and technical standards.
- Participate in an evening and weekend on-call rota.
About You:
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- C&G 2079 F-Gas qualification, including Hydrocarbons.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Significant experience working as a Refrigeration Engineer, ideally within a retail environment.
- Strong practical knowledge of refrigeration systems, with air conditioning experience also desirable.
- The ability to confidently diagnose faults and identify effective solutions.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- The ability to influence and work diplomatically with customers, clients and colleagues.
- A proactive approach to fault finding, maintenance and problem solving.
- The flexibility to work 40+ hours per week and participate in the on-call rota.
What's On Offer?
- Full-time, permanent position.
- Predominantly North East-based customer sites.
- Field-based role with the opportunity to work across a varied customer estate.
- Private health insurance.
- Death in service insurance.
- Ongoing opportunity to develop within an established engineering business
If you are an experienced Refrigeration Engineer looking for a field-based opportunity where your technical skills and customer service experience will be valued, we would be keen to hear from you.
Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
