Full job description

Due to continuous growth we are seeking a skilled and experienced Fire Alarm Engineer to join our team. As a Fire Alarm Engineer, you will be responsible for maintenance and installation of new and existing systems, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards.

The initial daily role would be fault finding, routine maintenance of fire alarm systems and testing of emergency lighting. You will work supported by our fire engineering department who will provide on hand design advice during all aspects of the operation. Opportunities will also be available to develop further in fire safety with full training given via our approved training centre.

Experienced and well-rounded knowledge in the relevant British standards for fire alarm and emergency lighting systems are essential for you to be a successful candidate for this position.

Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Fire Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in fire safety systems and engineering principles, with the ability to design, implement, and maintain fire protection systems. This role requires a keen understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, as well as proficiency in using various tools and software for effective system design.

Duties

  • Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Conduct regular maintenance on fire alarms, emergency lighting, and AOV (Automatic Opening Vent) systems to ensure they remain compliant and fully operational. Service, install, maintain CCTV, Access Control and Intruder systems
  • Fault Diagnosis and Repairs: Troubleshoot system issues and perform efficient, high-quality repairs to minimise downtime for clients. Experience on Gent preferred but not essential
  • Small Works and Installations: Carry out minor installations, upgrades, and modifications to fire alarm and emergency lighting systems, ensuring all work adheres to relevant safety and compliance standards.
  • Client Interaction: Build strong, professional relationships with clients, offering expert advice and recommendations to improve their systems and safety. Work closely with our clients to identify their needs and provide them with bespoke solutions that meet their requirements.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all work undertaken, including system inspections, repairs, and installations, using company-provided tools and software.Design and develop fire protection systems in compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Utilise CAD software to create detailed schematics and layouts for fire safety installations.
  • Conduct site assessments to evaluate existing fire safety measures and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in fire engineering, with a good understanding of fire and security systems is essential.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with an understanding of electrical systems related to fire safety.
  • Understanding of BS5839:1, BS5266:1 and BS7671.
  • Experience of BAFE SP203-1.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for system design is preferred.
  • Familiarity with power tools, hand tools, and their safe operation is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented approach to system design and implementation.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
  • Working on own initiative.
  • Have a flexible and willing approach to work.
