Full job description

Project Engineer – Fire & Security (Contract)

Location: Loughborough
Duration: 6 Months + Possible Extension
Rate: £400–£500 per day (Inside IR35)

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Fire & Security Project Engineer to support the delivery of multiple small-to-medium-sized projects across the Loughborough region.

The successful candidate will have a strong technical background in Fire Alarms, CCTV, Access Control and Intruder Alarm systems, ideally having progressed from a hands-on engineering or installation role into project engineering.

You will be responsible for coordinating technical activities, overseeing installation and commissioning works, resolving engineering challenges and ensuring projects are delivered to the required technical standards.

This is a 6-month contract with the potential for extension, offering flexibility between home working, office attendance and site visits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the technical delivery of multiple Fire & Security projects across various sites.
  • Oversee and coordinate installation, testing and commissioning activities for Fire Alarms, CCTV, Access Control and Intruder Alarm systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to installation engineers and subcontractors.
  • Review technical drawings, specifications, schematics and project documentation.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues arising during installation and commissioning.
  • Coordinate site activities, ensuring engineers have the necessary information, equipment and materials.
  • Liaise with clients, project managers, subcontractors and internal engineering teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Monitor engineering progress and highlight potential delays, technical risks or outstanding works.
  • Carry out site inspections, quality checks and snagging activities.
  • Support system testing, commissioning, documentation and final handover.
  • Ensure installations comply with relevant industry standards, client specifications and health and safety requirements.
  • Provide technical updates and progress reports to project management teams.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience working as a Fire & Security Project Engineer, Senior Engineer or Technical Project Engineer.
  • Strong hands-on technical background in Fire Alarm and Electronic Security systems.
  • Good working knowledge of CCTV, Access Control, Intruder Alarms and Fire Detection systems.
  • Experience coordinating installation and commissioning activities across multiple sites.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and system schematics.
  • Strong fault-finding and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience supporting engineers, subcontractors and installation teams.
  • Good organisational and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and managing technical priorities across multiple projects.
  • Willingness to travel between sites across the Loughborough and surrounding areas.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience progressing from a hands-on installation or commissioning engineering background.
  • Experience delivering small works, system upgrades, refurbishments and installation projects.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards, including BS 5839-1 and applicable electronic security standards.
  • Experience working across multiple live commercial or industrial sites.
  • ECS/CSCS, SSSTS or other relevant industry qualifications.
  • Basic commercial awareness, including materials, labour requirements and project cost considerations.

Contract Details

  • Rate: £400–£500 per day (Inside IR35)
  • Duration: Initial 6-month contract
  • Extension: Potential for further work
  • Location: Loughborough and surrounding areas
  • Working Arrangement: Flexible – Hybrid / Site-Based
  • Project Type: Multiple small-to-medium Fire & Security installations and upgrades

This opportunity would suit a technically strong Fire & Security Project Engineer who enjoys being involved in the engineering and delivery side of projects, rather than working in a purely project management capacity.

Pay: £400.00-£500.00 per day

Work Location: In person
