Exciting, rare opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast paced Animal handling and welfare role at Heathrow Airport.

Hours: full time permanent (6 on 4 off 8 hour shifts)

MUST be 21 years of age and have a full manual license to drive airside.

Animal Air Care has an exciting opportunity for people to join our animal welfare team in an important role as an animal welfare officer, you will also be an airside operative working directly with live animals. We currently have a team of 27 and are growing.

Our welfare officers are responsible for the safe handling of inbound and outbound live animals ensuring all species ranging from domestic to wild animals are cared for with respect and welfare legislation in mind. We see a wide range of species such as cats, dogs, reptiles, snakes, birds, mammals + Zoo animals such as sloths, monkeys and Lions.

Responsibilities:

  • The business operates 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year and will be covered by a variety of shift patterns. Applicants will be required to work a flexible pattern of rostered shifts including nights.
  • This role will require flexibility and shift changes to suit the needs of the business.
  • Driving Large vehicle`s airside - Training given on the job
  • To streamline and improve the services we offer to our partners, ensure communication is key and that admin duties are fulfilled.
  • The checking and processing of live animal travel documentation and customer support to agents and airlines
  • Airside deliveries and collections
  • X-ray screening
  • Full time permanent, inclusive of nights.
  • Assist a team of animal welfare officers and airside personnel to ensure high standards of animal welfare related duties are maintained.

Essential Criteria:

  • A minimum of 6 months welfare experience
  • A ‘clean’ continuous employment history dating back 5 years.
  • A satisfactory CRC background check.
  • A full, clean driving licence (manual transmission).
  • Experience in using computers and Windows-based applications.
  • Confident with outlook and organizing a busy mailbox.
  • You will be required to undergo security clearance and be vaccinated against rabies for this role.

Offer subject to satisfactory completion of their initial training and security clearance the successful applicant will move onto a full-time shift-based roster, equivalent to a 35-hour week.
