Full job description

Pharmidex is seeking a motivated and reliable Animal Technician to join our Biological Services Unit in Hatfield. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with at least 1 year of experience working with rodents in a laboratory or regulated environment who is passionate about animal welfare and maintaining high standards of husbandry.

The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day care and welfare of animals while ensuring compliance with Home Office and regulatory requirements.

Key ResponsibilitiesAnimal Husbandry

  • Carry out daily animal checks and welfare observations
  • Perform routine husbandry duties including cleaning, feeding, watering, and weighing animals
  • Monitor animal health and report any concerns promptly
  • Receive and unpack animal deliveries

Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities and observations
  • Monitor and document environmental conditions within the facility

Facility Maintenance

  • Operate cage and bottle washing equipment
  • Prepare clean cages, bottles, and equipment for use
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the facility
  • Handle waste disposal in accordance with company procedures

Additional Duties

  • Receive and store consumables and supplies
  • Assist with basic equipment maintenance and general facility support

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with rodents in a laboratory or similar environment
  • Good understanding of animal welfare and regulatory compliance
  • Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Animal care qualification desirable but not essential

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday
  • Occasional overtime may be required
  • Weekend work on a rota basis may be required
