Mount Pleasant Health Centre – Exeter
Hours: 37.5 - Monday to Friday
Mount Pleasant Health Centre is one of the largest training practices in Exeter, providing care to more than 17,000 patients from our purpose-built premises.
We are a friendly and supportive practice with an open-door approach and daily team meetings, creating an environment where everyone is encouraged to ask questions and learn. Many members of our GP team originally joined us as trainees and enjoyed working at the practice so much that they chose to stay.
We are now looking for a friendly, organised and professional Apprentice Medical Receptionist to join our team.
About the Role
As an Apprentice Medical Receptionist, you will often be the first point of contact for patients and visitors. You will help patients access the appropriate healthcare services, manage appointments and enquiries, and provide general administrative support to the wider practice team.
This is a varied role suited to someone who enjoys helping people, works well as part of a team and is keen to begin a career within healthcare administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer telephone calls in a timely, polite and professional manner
- Welcome patients and visitors at the reception desk
- Respond to patient emails and online eConsultations
- Book, cancel and rearrange patient appointments
- Signpost patients to the most appropriate healthcare service or clinician
- Process repeat prescription requests
- Register new patients and update patient records
- Accurately record information on the practice’s SystmOne clinical system
- Scan and file documents within electronic patient records
- Respond to general patient enquiries
- Complete administrative tasks requested by the wider practice team
- Liaise with hospitals, pharmacies and other healthcare professionals
- Maintain patient confidentiality and follow data protection procedures at all times
Training and Support
Full training and ongoing support will be provided by Mount Pleasant Health Centre. This will include:
- General administration and reception procedures
- Professional telephone etiquette
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Responding to queries and managing difficult conversations
- Teamwork and interpersonal skills
- Maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality
- Microsoft Office and other practice systems
- Organisation and time management
- Problem-solving skills
Alongside your role, you will complete a nationally recognised apprenticeship qualification with support from your employer and training provider.
