Job Title: Medical Receptionist Apprentice

Apprenticeship: Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship

Location: Brighton

Salary: £9.60 per hour (£18,500 per annum)

Hours: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm

This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy and professional healthcare environment as a Medical Receptionist Apprentice.

You will play an important role in supporting patients and the wider practice team, helping to ensure patients receive an efficient and welcoming service while developing valuable administration, communication and customer service skills.

Requirements

  • GCSEs (Grade A–C / 4–9) including English and Mathematics, or equivalent
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive, proactive and flexible approach to work
  • Confident and professional manner
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritise your workload effectively
  • Friendly and polite telephone manner
  • Confident using computers and Microsoft Office applications
  • Enjoys working as part of a team and supporting others
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills

Responsibilities for an Apprentice

  • Scan and process incoming post and patient documentation
  • Process new patient registrations and online access requests
  • Send patient information via post, email and relevant systems
  • Assist with medical report requests and administrative duties
  • Welcome patients and provide excellent customer service at reception
  • Process appointment requests both in person and over the telephone
  • Record home visit requests and liaise with clinicians where appropriate
  • Maintain accurate patient records and update information on practice systems
  • Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice guidelines
  • Answer telephone calls, take messages and direct queries appropriately
  • Work in accordance with practice procedures and written protocols

Apprenticeship Information

You will be enrolled on the Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship, typically completed over 18 months. This includes:

  • Regular workplace-based learning supported by your training provider and line manager
  • A minimum of 6 hours per week of off-the-job training
  • Development of skills, knowledge and behaviours aligned to the apprenticeship standard
  • Completion of a portfolio and end-point assessment
  • Functional Skills support in English or Maths if not previously achieved at Level 2

Prospects

Once you have completed your apprenticeship there will be the opportunity to potentially go into a permanent based role.
