Full job description

Right across infrastructure, there’s a requirement to not only maintain, but also renew and reimagine. Whatever stage you’re at in your career, with us you’ll have an opportunity to grow and develop. Delivering essential infrastructure services for life, while being safety first, and client and customer centric in a friendly, fun and respectful environment where you are encouraged to thrive.

Where will you be working?

At M Group Water we help our clients safeguard the water supply, improve environmental performance and manage demand for future generations. We enhance and extend asset life, ensuring compliance with water quality and environmental standards. We’re problem solvers with over 140 years of combined experience in engineering and infrastructure.

This role will join BGEN - one of the UK's largest multidisciplinary design and build contractors with over 100 years of industry experience. We support clients in the water, power & energy, pharmaceutical, nuclear and food and beverage industries to deliver next generation, value-added engineering solutions.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Electrical Estimator to join our commercial team. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in the commercial side of the construction industry to develop knowledge, skills and experience while studying towards a Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying Technician qualification and receiving guidance from experienced professionals.

Key Responsibilities/what they’ll be doing;

  • Participate in a structured development programme with placements across key departments (production, hardware, and software engineering teams).
  • Learn and support in preparing basic cost estimates and proposal documents under supervision.
  • Attend team meetings and observe bid strategy discussions to build commercial awareness.
  • Shadow Engineers and Senior staff in live tender activities and client interactions.
  • Engage in technical training and mentoring to understand control systems, software, and LV assemblies.
  • Support simple document formatting, supplier quote requests, or template reviews as part of bid activity.
  • Support review of tender documents to identify scope, technical requirements, and risks.
  • Participate in site visits and factory tours to understand BGEN’s delivery and production capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain a personal learning log to track technical and commercial learning milestones.
  • Contribute to team initiatives such as lessons learned or process improvement exercises.
  • Gradually build responsibility and autonomy as knowledge and confidence grow.
  • Help compare client specs to internal scope assumptions to develop awareness of scope gaps and alignment.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

As a Higher Apprentice, you will be recruited on a permanent contract. Upon successful completion of your Level 4 Construction Quantity Surveying Technician qualification, you’ll be well-positioned to progress onto a Degree Apprenticeship with a rewarding career path at M Group.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • GCSE grade 4 or equivalent and above in Maths and English
  • A Levels or equivalent Level 3 qualification (e.g., BTEC, T-Level) ideally within Engineering, Business or Math subjects.
  • A keen interest in the construction and infrastructure industry
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable, collaborative approach and a drive to make a difference
  • Willingness to travel.

Aspire together

Alongside your apprenticeship, our structured development programme provides opportunities to build skills, gain valuable experience and grow your confidence. You'll tackle meaningful challenges, expand your capabilities and benefit from a supportive community committed to your success.

As an M Group Apprentice, you can look forward to:

  • Tailored development experiences including three face-to-face workshops, two virtual learning sessions and a dedicated team-building event, all designed to enhance your confidence, collaboration and problem-solving skills while connecting you with colleagues from across the business.
  • Access to M Group Futures, our apprentice and graduate-led network, where you can share ideas, collaborate with peers and get involved in impactful projects that help shape the future of our business.
  • A strong support network from our Early Careers team and colleagues across M Group, providing guidance, encouragement and practical support throughout your apprenticeship journey.
  • Opportunities to become a STEM Ambassador, helping to inspire future talent while supporting our social value commitments and making a positive difference in the communities where we live and work.
  • Professional development support, with access to advice, resources and guidance to help you work towards relevant professional qualifications and achieve your long-term career goals.

We offer a range of benefits designed to support your life in and out of work, some of which include;

  • Company pension scheme
  • Death in service benefit
  • Opportunity to purchase additional holidays per year (up to 5 days for full time employees)
  • My rewards- offering documents on high street and online shopping
