Description
Location: Redruth, Cornwall
Asbestos analysts and surveyors play a vital role in protecting people and the environments they live and work in. Operating at the intersection of science, safety, and regulation, they identify and assess asbestos risks in buildings, helping ensure that materials are managed, removed, or handled safely. From on-site surveys to detailed laboratory analysis, their work is essential in preventing exposure and maintaining compliance across a wide range of industries.
What makes the role particularly interesting is the balance between fieldwork and technical expertise. You could be carrying out surveys in homes, offices, or construction sites, collecting samples and assessing risk, then supporting or interpreting analysis to confirm the presence of asbestos. Your findings directly inform critical decisions, from refurbishment plans to large-scale demolition projects, making accuracy and professionalism key.
There’s also a clear pathway for progression. With experience, you could specialise in air monitoring, consultancy, project management, or compliance, building a career that combines technical knowledge with real-world impact across sectors like construction, environmental services, and property management.

About You
You’re someone who prefers being out on site rather than behind a desk, and you’re comfortable working in environments like construction, demolition, or industrial settings. Early starts, travel, and changing locations don’t put you off — in fact, you enjoy the variety and the sense of purpose that comes with hands-on work.
You take safety seriously and understand the importance of following procedures properly. Working to strict rules, method statements, and risk assessments feels natural to you, and you don’t cut corners. You’re calm, focused, and able to stay composed even in regulated environments where inspections, audits, or oversight are part of the job.
You’re practical by nature and learn best by doing. Repetition and routine don’t bother you — you see them as part of building consistency and getting things right every time. You’re comfortable using equipment, following technical processes, and working in PPE or RPE for extended periods when required.
You can work independently once trained, taking responsibility for your tasks, but you also communicate clearly with teammates and supervisors to make sure work is completed safely and correctly. You’re motivated by doing work that matters — contributing to environmental safety, compliance, and protecting public health.
You value clear expectations, stability, and progression. You’re interested in building a long-term career, developing your skills step by step, and moving forward into roles such as surveyor or analyst over time.
Please note: You must be 18+ due to the nature of the working environment and a full UK manual driving licence is required.

What will I be doing as an apprentice?
Start your career as an asbestos site technician and gain hands-on experience supporting essential surveying, air monitoring, and inspection work in real-world environments.
As part of this Level 3 Asbestos Technician apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to carry out asbestos surveys, air monitoring, and clearance activities, applying recognised industry methods to produce accurate, compliant, and legally defensible results.
Over 12 months, you’ll combine day-to-day experience in your role with structured training delivered by expert tutors at Tiro. Our blended learning approach includes a mix of online sessions, in-person training, and hands-on support, alongside guidance from a dedicated mentor in the workplace.
You’ll spend at least 6 hours per week on off-the-job training, including virtual learning, practical activities, and applied assignments.
What your training will look like:You’ll follow a structured programme combining live sessions, online learning, and hands-on workplace training to build your skills step by step.
As part of your training, you’ll also work towards the RSPH Level 3 Award in Asbestos Air Monitoring and Clearance Procedures, a recognised qualification within the asbestos industry.
What could your future look like?
This apprenticeship will help you build the skills and experience needed to start your career as an asbestos site technician and progress within the asbestos management industry.
Through hands-on training, you’ll develop the competence and confidence to carry out asbestos surveys, air monitoring, and clearance testing in line with regulatory requirements. You’ll work in safety-critical environments, following strict compliance standards and contributing to protecting people, property, and the wider environment. This programme can also lead to professional recognition, such as becoming a Registered Science Technician (RSciTech).
You’ll gain experience that’s highly valued in a regulated and essential industry, opening up opportunities to grow and specialise within asbestos surveying, air monitoring, and related technical roles.
