Full job description
We're looking for a labourer to join our install team on domestic jobs across London. You'll be working alongside experienced roofers and our solar install crew — getting kit up to the roof, stripping and re-laying tiles, and helping get systems mounted and roofs watertight.
Around three domestic installs a week that the team works through together. Steady, predictable work, same small crew, one or two days on each job.
The money, up front
£28,000 a year, PAYE, paid whether it rains or not.
That's about £538 a week, 52 weeks a year. If you've been on agency day rates you'll know what that's worth — no washout days, no dead weeks, no chasing anyone for an invoice. Paid when you're sick. Paid over Christmas.
Read this part before you apply
We'd rather be straight with you than have you find out in week two.
This is physical, outdoor work, all year. You'll be on a roof in February rain and in August heat. You'll be carrying tiles up a ladder, stripping old roofs, and clearing sites at the end of the day. Starts are early — on site for 8/8.30am, and if you're not there, the team is a man down.
It's also a way into a real trade. Prove you turn up and graft, and we'll fund your Level 2 Roofing qualification on our time — a skill that pays for the rest of your life, and a stake in the company you helped build.
If the first paragraph puts you off, this isn't the one. If it doesn't, read on.
What you'll be doing
- Loading and unloading the van
- Getting tiles, rails and panels up to the roof
- Stripping, preparing, laying and weathering roofs — tile and slate — under the guidance of experienced roofers
- Working safely at height, with full training, supervision and PPE provided
- Helping the install team get systems mounted and roofs watertight, first time
- Mucking in, keeping sites tidy and safe, and building real hands-on skill week by week
What you'll need
- Real physical work behind you — site labouring, groundworks, scaffolding, demolition, removals, warehouse, or a practical trade. It doesn't need to be roofing. But we want someone who already knows what a full day of physical work feels like.
- Reliable and punctual — the kind of person a team can count on, on an 8am start, in the rain
- Comfortable working at height, or genuinely open to learning
- Physically up for outdoor, hands-on work in all weathers
- Right to work in the UK
- A CSCS card, or ready to get one — we'll pay for it
Nice to have
- Some awareness of working safely at height
- A full UK driving licence
- Roofing, solar or general site experience
- An interest in renewables and the clean energy transition
What's in it for you
- £28,000, PAYE, paid every month regardless of the weather
- All PPE and tools provided
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
- Company pension
- After six months, if you're solid: a fully funded Level 2 Diploma in Roofing Occupations, on our time. Proper, patient mentoring from people who know the job. You come out a qualified roofer — no debt, no evening classes on your own dime.
- Employee stock ownership plan — you own a real piece of what you're building
- A clear path to qualified roofer, and beyond
- A direct hand in the UK's clean energy transition
The qualification is there for whoever wants it. It isn't the deal on day one — you earn into it.
Apply if you're dependable, happy to graft, and want to learn a proper trade with a team building something good. We care far more about attitude and reliability than what's already on your CV — but you do need to have done a hard day's physical work before.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £28,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Company pension
- Employee stock ownership plan
Application question(s):
- Do you have the right to work in the UK and are you eligible to start a UK apprenticeship
- Can you reliably get to sites across london for an 8am start?
- Are you comfortable working at height, or genuinely willing to learn?
- Have you done any hands-on physical work before — construction, labouring, groundworks, scaffolding, warehouse, or a practical trade?
- This role involves outdoor physical work in all weather, year-round. Are you up for that?
- What hands-on or physical work have you done? Tell us where, when, and what you actually did day to day.
- Why roofing specifically, and why now? If you've applied for other trades or roles recently, tell us about that too.
