Apprentice Grounds Maintenance

Location: Mobile – with daily local travel to North Wales Housing properties

Contract: Apprenticeship – Fixed Term for up to 2-years

Salary: Pay rate in line with National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage

Hours: Working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

About the Role

North Wales Housing are looking for two motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Apprentice Grounds Maintenance Workers. This role will provide hands-on experience in grounds maintenance while working towards a recognised qualification.

Key responsibilities include:

As part of the role, you’ll be working towards a recognised qualification, attending College on a day release basis to fulfil the requirements of your NVQ when required. This will involve:

  • Assisting in a full range of grounds maintenance tasks, including grass cutting, litter picking, planting, weeding, pruning, and hedge trimming.
  • Supporting the clearance and maintenance of gullies, water features, and water courses.
  • Helping with pest and disease control to keep our green spaces healthy and attractive.
  • Learning how to use and maintain hand tools and powered equipment safely and effectively.
  • Assisting with property maintenance tasks as directed.
  • Gaining valuable experience in both hard and soft landscaping projects.

Essential requirements:

  • A keen interest in grounds maintenance and a willingness to learn.
  • Good communication skills and a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude.
  • The ability to work well as part of a team and independently when required.
  • A basic understanding of customer expectations regarding conduct and behaviour.
  • GCSE Grade C or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Currently attending or planning to attend college to complete a relevant qualification.
  • An ability to lift and carry medium loads and operate hand and power tools.
  • A basic ability to hold conversations in Welsh (desirable but not essential)
  • A good level of literacy and numeracy
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
