Role Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer Apprentice to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for Year 1, 2, or 3 students looking to begin or continue a career in engineering while gaining practical experience alongside formal training. You will work closely with experienced engineers and contribute to real-world projects from day one.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist qualified mechanical fitters with the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems in industrial settings, predominantly within the water industry.
  • Support manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to a high standard of safety and organisation.
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, including safe isolation practices and PPE requirements.
  • Attend college or training provider sessions as required and complete coursework on time.
  • Work as part of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers.

Training & Development:

  • Enrolment in a recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship programme
  • On-the-job training with experienced engineers and mentors
  • Opportunities to develop technical and professional skills

Requirements:

  • Strong interest in mechanical engineering and how things work
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities
  • Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office; CAD knowledge is a plus but not essential)

Entry Requirements:

  • Apprenticeship not started: Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above (or equivalent), including Maths, English, and Science or a relevant technical subject. Unitspark will enrol successful applicants starting college September 2026. Must be able to commence employment no later than August 2026.
  • Currently studying in Year 1, 2, or 3 Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.

Desirable:

  • Interest or experience in engineering projects (school or personal)
  • Understanding of basic engineering principles
