Role Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer Apprentice to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for Year 1, 2, or 3 students looking to begin or continue a career in engineering while gaining practical experience alongside formal training. You will work closely with experienced engineers and contribute to real-world projects from day one.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist qualified mechanical fitters with the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems in industrial settings, predominantly within the water industry.
- Support manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas to a high standard of safety and organisation.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including safe isolation practices and PPE requirements.
- Attend college or training provider sessions as required and complete coursework on time.
- Work as part of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers.
Training & Development:
- Enrolment in a recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship programme
- On-the-job training with experienced engineers and mentors
- Opportunities to develop technical and professional skills
Requirements:
- Strong interest in mechanical engineering and how things work
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
- Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office; CAD knowledge is a plus but not essential)
Entry Requirements:
- Apprenticeship not started: Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above (or equivalent), including Maths, English, and Science or a relevant technical subject. Unitspark will enrol successful applicants starting college September 2026. Must be able to commence employment no later than August 2026.
- Currently studying in Year 1, 2, or 3 Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.
Desirable:
- Interest or experience in engineering projects (school or personal)
- Understanding of basic engineering principles
