Full job description

Partner / Future Partner – Architecture

Location: Surrey
Salary: Circa £80,000+ DOE
Job Type: Permanent
Working Pattern: Hybrid

The Opportunity

An established architectural practice in Surrey is seeking an experienced Architectural Director, Partner, Associate Director or senior architectural professional to join the business in a strategically important leadership appointment.

This is an opportunity for someone who wants to move beyond project delivery and play a significant role in the commercial, operational and strategic growth of a practice, with a genuine longer-term pathway towards Partnership.

The successful candidate will bring senior-level architectural experience alongside commercial acumen, business development capability, strong client relationships and the ability to lead and develop people.

The Role

You will have responsibility for leading projects and teams while also contributing to the wider commercial and strategic direction of the practice.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading architectural projects from concept through to completion
  • Managing programmes, budgets, resources and commercial performance
  • Building and maintaining strong client and consultant relationships
  • Leading multidisciplinary project teams
  • Overseeing design, planning and technical delivery
  • Managing fees, invoicing, cash flow and project profitability
  • Providing leadership, mentoring and development across the team
  • Supporting recruitment, resource planning and studio development
  • Leading or contributing to bids, tenders and business development
  • Identifying and developing new clients and project opportunities
  • Developing existing client relationships and generating repeat business
  • Bringing sector knowledge, market intelligence and professional networks to the practice
  • Contributing to the overall growth, strategy and direction of the business
  • Helping develop the practice's people, culture and capabilities

About You

We are looking for an ARB Registered Architect with substantial UK architectural practice experience and a proven track record at Senior Associate, Associate Director, Director or Partner level.

You will ideally bring:

  • Significant experience leading complex architectural projects
  • Strong commercial and financial management skills
  • Proven business development and work-winning experience
  • An established client and professional network
  • Experience managing and developing architectural teams
  • Strong understanding of recruitment, resource planning and people management
  • Knowledge of HR, employment law and health & safety responsibilities
  • Excellent client-facing, communication and leadership skills
  • A proactive and entrepreneurial approach
  • Strong design and technical understanding
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit

Sector Experience

Healthcare and/or life sciences experience is highly desirable and will be a key consideration.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have developed genuine expertise and relationships within these sectors and who can contribute to the continued growth of the practice in these markets.

Candidates with predominantly residential experience are unlikely to be suitable.

The Opportunity to Progress

This is not simply a project-delivery position.

The successful individual will have the opportunity to take an increasingly influential role within the practice, with the long-term potential to progress into a Partner position.

For an ambitious Architect with the right combination of leadership, commercial awareness, client relationships and business-development capability, this represents an opportunity to become a key part of the practice's future growth.

Salary: Circa £80,000+ depending on experience and seniority, with flexibility for the right individual and level of contribution.
