Are you a Technical Architect who enjoys solving complex challenges and shaping technology strategy? At LendingCrowd, you will have the opportunity to define and evolve our technology architecture, working at the heart of major technical decisions that impact the future of the business. You will provide technical leadership across our engineering teams, helping to create secure, scalable, and resilient solutions while ensuring our technology remains adaptable, maintainable, and aligned with our long-term ambitions. This is a role for someone who wants to influence, innovate, and leave a meaningful mark on a growing organisation.

We’re a rapidly growing company, constantly striving to raise our standards, so this is a great opportunity to be part of a genuine Scottish success story.

About us

LendingCrowd is a leading fintech business, shaping the way SMEs borrow money. Blending technology innovation, financial expertise and solid backing, we’ve driven over £600M in lending to small businesses, across the UK, since we launched in 2014.

We’re perfectly positioned to become the trusted choice for SME financing, with an embedded culture of ‘doing the right thing’ at our core. We actively encourage the generation and development of ideas from all team members to grow the business.

About the role

Reporting to our Software Engineering Manager, the Technical Architect is responsible for defining and evolving the organisation's technology architecture, ensuring systems are scalable, secure, resilient, and aligned with business objectives. The role provides technical leadership across the Technology team, guiding architectural decisions and supporting the delivery of high-quality technology solutions.

As a key member of a small and dynamic team, you’ll be responsible for:

  • Defining and maintaining architectural direction for platforms, systems, and business domains.
  • Leading the design of complex and business-critical technology solutions.
  • Providing technical leadership and architectural guidance across the Technology team.
  • Ensuring solutions meet requirements for scalability, security, resilience, performance, and maintainability.
  • Evaluating technology options and support key technical decision-making.
  • Promoting architectural standards, consistency, and best practices across the technology estate.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure technology supports organisational priorities.
  • Managing key relationships with external technology suppliers.
  • Mentoring and supporting members of the Technology team, sharing architectural knowledge and best practice.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve systems, reduce complexity, and manage technical risk.

About you

In terms of knowledge, skills and experience, we would expect you to have:

  • Significant experience in software engineering, solution design, and systems architecture.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture principles and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to influence decisions and build consensus across teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative and approachable leadership style.
  • Pragmatic and delivery-focused, balancing long-term strategy with business needs.
  • Experience designing and delivering architecture within cloud-based environments.
  • Knowledge of cloud architecture, system integration, and distributed systems design.
  • Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience defining integration patterns and secure technology solutions.
  • Experience working collaboratively across Technology teams to deliver complex technical programmes and initiatives.
  • Experience operating within regulated or security-conscious environments.
  • Knowledge of non-functional requirements including scalability, security, resilience, performance, and observability.

It would also be beneficial if you have experience of:

  • Experience with data architecture, analytics platforms, or data integration.
  • Experience developing architectural standards and governance frameworks.
  • Experience with platform engineering, DevOps, or developer experience initiatives.

Come join us and be part of our success story!
