Architect / Architectural Technologist

Location: Burnley, Lancashire
Salary: £40,000–£65,000 depending on experience and chartered status
Contract: Permanent employment or long-term individual consultancy
Working arrangement: Full-time, office-based

An opportunity to take ownership of architectural design on major development projects

We are recruiting an experienced Architect or Architectural Technologist to join an established business undertaking an exciting development in the Ribble Valley

This is an opportunity for a technically accomplished professional who enjoys the practical side of architecture and wants to play an influential, hands-on role in bringing building projects from concept through to completion.

The initial focus will be a major redevelopment in the Ribble Valley. Beyond this development, there is a continuing pipeline of projects, offering genuine long-term career stability and the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to the business.

Unlike a traditional architectural practice, this role offers the opportunity to concentrate on designing and delivering projects for one organisation, working directly with the people responsible for bringing those designs to life.

The opportunity

Working as a key member of a multidisciplinary project team, you will take responsibility for developing architectural designs and producing the technical information required

You will work closely with contractors and staff responsible for construction, mechanical and electrical services, utilities, ensuring architectural designs are practical, coordinated and deliverable.

This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys designing buildings, solving technical challenges and seeing their work progress through construction.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop building layouts, spatial arrangements, elevations, sections and architectural designs for commercial and industrial developments.
  • Personally produce detailed architectural drawings, specifications and construction information.
  • Prepare and coordinate planning applications and associated architectural documentation.
  • Ensure architectural designs meet relevant Building Regulations, accessibility, fire safety and energy-performance requirements, coordinating specialist input where necessary.
  • Work closely with structural engineers, building-services specialists and project managers to integrate architectural requirements into the wider development.
  • Review materials, proposed construction solutions and supplier submissions, identifying practical and commercially sensible approaches.
  • Resolve architectural design issues, respond to construction-stage queries and support the successful delivery of projects.
  • Maintain clear, accurate and coordinated design documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

About you

You may currently be working within an architectural practice, an engineering or construction organisation, or independently as a consultant.

You will ideally offer:

  • ARB registration as an Architect or MCIAT status as a Chartered Architectural Technologist – This is not essential however.
  • Substantial experience designing and delivering commercial or industrial buildings
  • Proven ability to personally produce high-quality architectural designs and detailed technical drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, Building Regulations and technical design coordination.
  • Competence in AutoCAD and Revit or equivalent design and BIM software.
  • Experience working alongside structural, mechanical, electrical and construction professionals.
  • Excellent organisational skills, sound technical judgement and the confidence to work independently.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach and a genuine interest in seeing projects successfully delivered.

Flexible engagement options
The business is open to either a permanent appointment or a long-term consultancy arrangement

Pay: £40,000.00-£65,000.00 per year

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Burnley BB12 7TY: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Work Location: In person
