Full job description

Company Description

Primary Secondary Design (PSD) is an Architectural design practice based in Fordingbridge, Hampshire, which specialises in delivering Healthcare and Social Housing.

Established in 2003, PSD has been responsible for designing over 650,000 square feet of schemes which consist of Healthcare, social housing, apartments, Nurseries and offices.

Currently, PSD has a multiphase project currently on site consisting of over 100,000 square feet. With a £20mn scheme in planning at the moment and multiple projects in their infancy, PSD are looking for someone to fulfil a technical role. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing team at an established company with a track record that speaks for itself.

PSD is part of a group of companies owned by the same common owner. Therefore, you will be working alongside colleagues in Healthcare and Community Construction (HCC), our in-house main contractor, and Medcentres PLC, our in-house developer. PSD is solely designed for HCC and the development team at Medcentres PLC.

This is a rare opportunity to work at the heart of an architectural design practice that’s fully integrated across the entire project lifecycle, allowing you to be involved from RIBA Stage 0 – 7, from concept and planning through to delivery and handover. In this role, you will experience all elements of a development and see what you’ve drawn as a concept, delivered on-site and have responsibility for various parts of the entire journey of a project, not just one element.

Day-to-day responsibilities are likely to include the following

· Producing high-quality technical and construction drawings using AutoCAD.

· Developing detailed packages for planning and construction.

· Working closely with the construction and development teams to resolve site queries, manage revisions, and ensure buildability.

· Coordinating input from external consultants and reviewing design packages from specialist subcontractors

· Attending site visits and design coordination meetings.

· Ensuring compliance with the latest Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act and client design specifications

· Preparing, contributing to and submitting planning applications

· Assisting with design presentations and marketing materials

What PSD are looking for

  • Strong experience inresidential and/or healthcare buildings
  • A deep understanding of UK building regulations, the Building Safety Act, technical standards and NHBC guidelines.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Experience liaising with contractors and an understanding of how designs translate to site.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude with excellent communication skills.
  • Bonus if you have experience or interest in graphic design, marketing, or early-stage concept visuals.

Why Join Us?

  • As part of an in-house design team, you’ll work on all elements of a project and have the ability to influence and impact a scheme involved from concept through to construction handover.
  • You'll see your work come to life quickly, with live feedback from the contractor and developer.
  • Our projects centre on affordable housing, general social housing, Extra Care and Healthcare — essential developments that truly serve communities.
  • Be part of a growing team where you can have a long and satisfying career in an environment where you are respected, valued, rewarded and left alone to do your job.

Salary range will be commensurate with your experience.
