Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated, diligent, and focussed Architectural Assistant to join our team.
You will focus on pre-planning housing and residential architectural projects - from one-off bespoke houses, to large-scale rural development schemes - working with an architect to take a project from initial brief, through concept sketches, to a refined design.
You will package design proposals in professional-standard drawings, and prepare and coordinate planning applications, statements, and supporting documents.
You will be a go-getter, who responds well to direction and constructive criticism, to take ownership of projects, and work to targets without the need for micro-managing.
You will be joining an energetic and ambitious team, with a slate of exciting projects.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with an architect to develop architectural designs and plans.
- Use creativity and technical skills to create and develop house designs and site layouts.
- Respond to direction and constructive criticism through the design process to develop and refine schemes.
- Create detailed drawings using software such as Vectorworks, TwinMotion, and Photoshop.
- Participate in regular project meetings, taking responsibility for hitting targets, and communicating progress with project architect.
- Assist in the preparation of presentation and visual materials for client meetings, planning submissions, and internal discussions.
- Support the team in various stages of project development, and provide assistance across the practice as required.
Qualifications
- Experience in housing and residential practice is important, and you should have experience designing and refining house designs, or experience producing and testing site layouts for larger developments - perhaps both.
- Experience of the planning process is very important, and the preparation of planning, D&A statements, and drawing packages.
- It is essential you can work as part of a team, take direction, and respond to constructive criticism through the design process.
- It is important you have a professional manner, are punctual, and presentable.
- Experience liaising with and coordinating consultants is desirable.
- Proficiency with Vectorworks CAD software, or desire and ability to learn.
- Experience producing visualisations with TwinMotion or similar rendering engine.
- Familiarity with graphic design principles and tools such as Photoshop and InDesign is advantageous.
- Open to alternative-route careers, or those with a varied background - we are interested in what you can do, and treat applicants on their individual merits.
- A portfolio showcasing your design, planning, professional and technical skills will be requested during the application process.
