Full job description
Our client is a sustainability-led architecture, structural and geotechnical engineering practice working across residential, retrofit, basements, pools, natural materials, low-energy design and technically challenging construction projects.
They work closely with clients, contractors, fabricators and specialist consultants to create buildings that are beautiful, buildable and responsible. Their work regularly involves complex existing structures, basements, timber, low-carbon materials, Passivhaus principles and close site coordination.
They are a small but growing team. They are looking for people who are hands-on, curious and collaborative — and who are happy to contribute across disciplines. All roles are UK-based and combine remote work, office collaboration and site visits.
Location: UK — hybrid remote and office, with site visits as required
Reports to: Senior Architect
Level: Part II / ARB-registered or working towards registration
Right to Work: Must have, or be eligible for, the right to work in the UK
The Role
We are looking for a talented and motivated Junior Architect or Architectural Assistant to support our senior architect across concept design, planning, technical design, presentations and client-facing work.
This role suits someone who enjoys producing thoughtful design work, strong visuals and well-crafted presentations. You should be comfortable contributing across different project stages — from early ideas through to technical coordination and construction support — and happy working in a small studio where initiative and clear communication matter.
Key Responsibilities
– Preparing concept design options, layouts and feasibility studies.
– Producing planning drawings, design packs and client-facing presentations.
– Creating high-quality renders, diagrams and visual narratives.
– Supporting technical drawing packages for building control, tender and construction.
– Coordinating with structural engineers, sustainability consultants and contractors.
– Assisting with site surveys and existing building analysis.
– Researching materials, precedents and sustainable design strategies.
Skills and Experience
– A degree in architecture or equivalent training.
– Some experience in residential, retrofit or low-energy projects.
– Good design sensibility and strong visual communication skills.
– Ability to produce clear drawings and attractive presentation material.
– Interest in sustainable design, Passivhaus principles, retrofit and natural materials.
– A working knowledge of UK planning and building regulations would be helpful.
Software
Experience in some of the following is useful — we don’t expect proficiency in all of them:
– Revit, Archicad, Vectorworks or AutoCAD.
– SketchUp or Rhino for 3D modelling.
– Enscape, Twinmotion or D5 Render for visualisation.
– Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
– AI visualisation tools, used thoughtfully, would be a bonus.
Personal Qualities
The right person will be a good communicator, organised and genuinely curious. You should be comfortable working independently, happy to ask questions early and interested in both design quality and how buildings are actually built. An enthusiasm for sustainability, craft and natural materials would fit well with how we work.
What Success Looks Like
– The senior architect feels well supported.
– Drawings and visuals are clear, attractive and well coordinated.
– Project information is kept organised.
– You grow in confidence across both creative and technical stages.
– You contribute positively to studio culture and design conversations.
Pay: £30,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
