Area Manager – Dundee Area

Job Title: Area Manager
Location: Dundee & Surrounding Areas
Reports to: Operations Manager / Regional Manager

Role Overview

As an Area Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operational performance of multiple Sun Shack locations across the Dundee area. You will lead, support and develop salon teams to ensure every site operates efficiently, delivers exceptional customer service, achieves commercial targets, and maintains the highest standards of compliance.

You will be a hands-on leader who motivates teams, drives sales performance, ensures staffing levels are maintained, and acts as the key link between Head Office and the salons.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Management

  • Ensure all assigned salons open and close on time and operate efficiently.
  • Maintain adequate staffing levels across all sites through effective rota planning and resource allocation.
  • Provide cover or arrange cover during unexpected staff absences.
  • Conduct regular salon visits to monitor standards and support teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures and health & safety legislation.
  • Monitor cleanliness, maintenance and presentation standards across all salons.
  • Liaise with Head Office regarding maintenance issues, equipment repairs and operational requirements.

Recruitment & Staffing

  • Manage recruitment for all vacancies within your area.
  • Conduct interviews and select suitable candidates.
  • Coordinate onboarding and induction for all new employees.
  • Ensure right-to-work documentation and employment paperwork is completed correctly.
  • Support succession planning by identifying future supervisors and managers.

Training & Development

  • Deliver structured induction programmes for new employees.
  • Coach, mentor and develop salon teams to achieve their full potential.
  • Conduct regular one-to-one meetings and performance reviews.
  • Identify training needs and arrange additional coaching where required.
  • Ensure all mandatory training is completed and recorded.
  • Develop team members for internal promotion opportunities.

Performance Management

  • Set clear expectations and performance standards.
  • Monitor employee attendance, punctuality and conduct.
  • Address performance concerns promptly through coaching and formal procedures where appropriate.
  • Carry out disciplinary, grievance and absence management meetings in line with company policy.
  • Recognise and reward outstanding performance.

Sales & KPI Management

You will be accountable for delivering key business objectives including:

You will analyse weekly and monthly reports, identify trends and implement action plans to improve performance.

  • Ensure company service standards are consistently achieved.

Financial Responsibilities

  • Monitor sales and expenses.
  • Minimise stock loss and wastage.
  • Ensure accurate cash handling procedures are followed.
  • Complete regular stock audits and investigations where required.

Compliance

  • Ensure all Health & Safety procedures are followed.
  • Complete regular salon audits.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate personnel and training records.
  • Ensure GDPR and confidentiality requirements are adhered to.

Communication

  • Act as the primary point of contact between salons and Head Office.
  • Attend management meetings.
  • Communicate company updates and initiatives to salon teams.
  • Produce reports as required.
  • Support the implementation of new business initiatives.

Person SpecificationEssential

  • Previous multi-site or management experience.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Experience recruiting, interviewing and training staff.
  • Ability to motivate teams to achieve KPIs.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to analyse performance data.
  • Full UK Driving Licence with willingness to travel between sites.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital reporting systems.

Desirable

  • Experience within retail, leisure, hospitality or health & beauty.
  • HR or employment law knowledge.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Health & Safety knowledge.

Working Hours
