About Tolley Badges Ltd
Tolley Badges Ltd specialises in creating high-quality bespoke badges and promotional products for a wide range of customers, including schools, charities, businesses, clubs, Scouts and Girlguiding groups.
We are looking for a creative and organised Graphic Designer to join our team. This is a varied role involving the preparation of customer artwork, the creation of original designs and the production of clear, accurate visuals suitable for manufacturing.
The Role
The successful candidate will work closely with customers and colleagues to turn ideas, sketches, logos and reference images into attractive, production-ready designs.
You will need to balance creativity with the practical requirements of different manufacturing methods, ensuring every design is visually appealing, accurate and suitable for its intended product.
Key Responsibilities
- Create original artwork for embroidered, woven, printed and metal badges.
- Produce designs for promotional products and other personalised merchandise.
- Turn customer sketches, photographs and ideas into professional artwork.
- Redraw logos and supplied artwork as clean, editable vector graphics.
- Simplify designs where necessary to make them suitable for manufacture.
- Prepare accurate customer proofs showing colours, dimensions and product details.
- Make artwork amendments following customer feedback.
- Check spelling, colours, sizing, positioning and other details before approval.
- Prepare final production artwork to the correct technical specifications.
- Select appropriate Pantone colours and maintain colour consistency.
- Communicate clearly with the sales and production teams.
- Manage several design projects at once and meet agreed deadlines.
- Organise and maintain artwork files, templates and customer records.
- Follow company branding, quality standards and approval procedures.
- Assist with marketing graphics, social media content and product visuals when required.
Skills and ExperienceEssential
- Strong graphic design and illustration skills.
- Experience using Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW or similar vector-design software. We tend to use CorelDraw but training will be given.
- A good understanding of vector artwork, typography, layout and colour.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly when checking wording and specifications.
- Ability to interpret customer instructions and turn them into effective designs.
- Ability to simplify detailed artwork without losing its main character.
- Good organisation and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple jobs and work to deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- A positive attitude and willingness to respond constructively to feedback.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
Desirable
- Previous experience designing badges, patches, promotional products or merchandise.
- Knowledge of embroidery, weaving, screen printing or metal badge production.
- Experience preparing artwork for manufacturing.
- An understanding of Pantone colour matching.
- Digital illustration or photo-editing experience.
- Experience creating social media and marketing graphics.
Personal Qualities
We are looking for someone who is:
- Creative and enthusiastic.
- Accurate and methodical.
- Patient when working through customer amendments.
- Comfortable working on both creative and technical tasks.
- Dependable and able to manage priorities.
- Friendly, professional and customer-focused.
- Keen to learn about different products and production processes.
What We Offer
- A creative and varied role within a friendly team.
- The opportunity to work on designs for a wide range of customers and organisations.
- Training in badge design and manufacturing requirements.
- The chance to see your artwork developed into finished physical products.
- 1 hour lunch break
- Flexitime if needed
- 28 Days holiday (including bank holidays). 5 days holiday to be taken over Christmas when the office is shut over the festive period.
- Monthly target bonus if target is hit.
