Japanese Gallery Kensington, a specialist in Japanese art, antiques and anime memorabilia, is seeking a client-facing gallery assistant with a passion for Japan and its culture.

As the first point of contact for visitors and collectors, you will play a central role in the day-to-day running of the gallery, from welcoming clients and handling sales to keeping the gallery, its stock and its records in order.

  • Maintaining gallery displays and ensuring the gallery is presented to a high standard
  • Processing newly acquired stock and maintaining accurate digital inventories
  • Dispatching orders worldwide and preparing shipping documentation
  • Providing production and logistical support for gallery events and activities
  • Providing general administrative support

Requirements:

  • Keen interest in and knowledge of Japanese art and culture
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with a professional and personable manner
  • Proficient IT skills, including MS Office, Google Workspace and online marketplace product uploads
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Proficient English ability (CEFR A2)

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a client-facing role, ideally in a gallery, auction house, antiques or luxury retail setting
  • Familiarity with image editing software (such as Photoshop) and Adobe Suite
  • The ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks and prioritise a varied workload
  • Experience resolving client queries and issues with appropriate professional decorum
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in sales
  • Experience managing website content, CMS platforms and digital catalogues
  • Understanding and awareness of both domestic and international shipping processes.
  • Confident use of email platforms, cloud-based file management and digital record keeping
  • Intermediate level of Japanese (N2)

If you are interested in this opportunity, please send your CV and a cover letter to info@japanesegallery.com. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.
