Role Purpose

The Creative Intervention Practitioner delivers targeted, music-based intervention programmes that support children and young people experiencing Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, behavioural barriers, and disengagement from education.

Using music production, creative expression, and structured mentoring, the practitioner will help young people develop emotional regulation, build confidence, improve engagement in learning, and positively impact behavioural and wellbeing outcomes.

This role sits at the intersection of education, mentoring, and therapeutic-informed practice.

Key Responsibilities

1. Programme Delivery

• Plan and deliver 1:1 and small group intervention sessions using music production and creative activities
• Adapt sessions to meet individual needs, including SEN, SEMH, and additional vulnerabilities
• Create a safe, structured, and engaging environment for young people
• Use music as a tool to support emotional expression, communication, and self-regulation

2. Intervention & Outcomes Focus

• Set clear session objectives linked to EHCPs, behaviour plans, or school targets
• Track and evidence progress in areas such as:
• Emotional regulation
• Behaviour
• Engagement in learning
• Confidence and self-esteem
• Complete session reports and contribute to impact reviews for schools and stakeholders

3. Relationship Building & Mentoring

• Build consistent, trusted relationships with young people
• Act as a positive role model, mentor, and guide
• Support pupils in identifying triggers, managing emotions, and making better choices
• Work closely with school staff including SENCOs, pastoral teams, and safeguarding leads

4. Safeguarding & Professional Practice

• Follow all safeguarding policies and procedures in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education
• Maintain professional boundaries at all times
• Accurately record and report any safeguarding concerns
• Uphold confidentiality and data protection standards

5. Creative & Technical Delivery

• Deliver high-quality music sessions using DAWs (e.g. Logic Pro, Ableton, GarageBand)
• Support young people in:
• Beat-making
• Songwriting
• Recording and vocal work
• Use creative processes to encourage focus, discipline, and achievement

6. Collaboration & Development

• Contribute to programme development and improvement
• Attend training in areas such as:
• Trauma-informed practice
• Behaviour management
• Safeguarding
• Work collaboratively with The Music Klub team to maintain high standards of delivery

Essential Skills & Experience

• Experience working with children or young people (education, youth work, or mentoring)
• Strong understanding of SEMH needs, behaviour, and disengagement
• Ability to build rapport and manage challenging behaviour calmly
• Practical skills in music production or creative arts delivery
• Good communication and organisational skills
• Ability to work independently and adapt in dynamic environments

Desirable (But Not Essential)

• Experience working with SEN (e.g., ADHD, ASD)
• Knowledge of trauma-informed or therapeutic approaches
• Experience in alternative provision or PRUs
• Relevant qualifications in youth work, education, music, or counselling
• Understanding of frameworks linked to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Important Note on Scope of Role

This role is not a clinical therapy position. Practitioners are expected to work in a therapeutically informed way but not to diagnose or provide regulated therapy services. Where specialist support is required, practitioners must liaise with appropriate professionals.

Pay: £14.00-£15.00 per hour
