Joining Arup

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We work across the entire water cycle, with utilities, local and regional governments, commercial and domestic water users and other partners. From designing and maintaining key water infrastructure to advising on natural catchments and flood defenses, we help clients to consider the long-term economic, environmental and social dimensions of their proposals.

The Opportunity

Our Water Infrastructure team in North West England is growing. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic technical lead with relevant professional experience gained in the water industry to take a leading role in the detailed design of the £3bn Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme (HARP).

You should have a sound understanding of hydraulics and may be digitally savvy, with an interest in using digital tools to improve efficiency by reducing repetitive tasks. You are also likely to have experience of leading teams. You will ideally have worked on Design and Build projects and be comfortable collaborating with construction partners. Having a strong curiosity about the impact water can have on people’s lives would be beneficial, alongside a drive to help protect communities.

The HARP project will just be the start of your journey with Arup. You will have the opportunity to contribute to AMP8 framework projects, providing you with a portfolio of exciting and challenging work.

Reporting to the Water Team Leader in Manchester, you will support the design of clean water and wastewater projects, with a focus on hydraulic design, while working as part of a collaborative team delivering high-quality technical outputs.

Is this role right for you?

We are seeking the below skills and knowledge:

  • Recognised professional qualification in civil engineering or a related subject.
  • Extensive experience in water/civil engineering within a consulting environment, with a proven track record of leadership in water sector projects.
  • Strong technical expertise in the design, development, and delivery of water and/or wastewater systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage client relationships, and contribute to the strategic direction of a business.
  • Expertise in industry-standard software and design tools relevant to water engineering.
  • Experience of working within Design and Build project environments.
