About Smiths

Smiths is a growing social housing contractor delivering reactive repairs, void refurbishments, disrepair works, asbestos removals & reinstatement, and planned kitchen & bathroom renewals across the South East.

We’re looking for experienced Multi-Trade Operatives to join our Kitchens and Bathroom delivery teams and work across our core social housing workstreams.

The Role

This is a hands-on Multi-Trade Carpentry role delivering works directly in occupied and void properties. You’ll be assigned a primary workstream based on your strengths, with occasional support across others when required.

You’ll be responsible for completing works end-to-end, maintaining high quality standards, and delivering a great service to residents and clients.

Key Responsibilities

Delivering works across one or more of the following streams:

  • Reactive repairs & make-safes
  • Voids
  • Disrepair / damp & mould works
  • Planned kitchen & bathroom renewals

Day-to-day duties include:

  • Carpentry (1st & 2nd fix)
  • Kitchen Fitting
  • Minor Painting & decorating
  • Minor Wall tiling (small areas)
  • Vinyl flooring (safety flooring)
  • Rip-outs and preparation works
  • Making good and snag completion
  • Working to SORs and agreed scopes
  • Completing jobs first-time and right-first-time
  • Uploading before, during and after photos and job updates via mobile system
  • Communicating professionally with residents
  • Reporting issues, delays, or variations to site managers

What We’re Looking For Essential

  • Proven experience as a Multi-Trade Carpentry Operative in social housing
  • Competent in carpentry, decorating, tiling, and other trades.
  • Full Manual UK driving licence (max 6 points, no ban within 5 years due to insurance restrictions)
  • Punctuality and reliability is a must
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own workload
  • Strong attention to quality and finishing
  • Good communication and customer-facing skills
  • CSCS card (Green or higher)
  • Full tool kit

Desirable

  • Experience across multiple social housing workstreams
  • Kitchen & bathroom installation experience
  • Disrepair / damp & mould experience
  • Asbestos awareness (training provided if required)
  • NVQ / City & Guilds in a relevant trade
