Full job description

About Us

We are a caring Asian family of four, based in Southwest London, with two wonderful boys aged 7 and 3. Our older son attends a special needs school and has Cerebral Palsy. He is affectionate, responsive, and thrives with calm, patient, and structured support. Our younger son is full of energy, humour, and joy. Both children flourish in a nurturing and predictable environment.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate part-time SEN nanny to support our family, primarily weekends and select weekday afternoons. The focus of this role is to:

  • Care for our older son with CP, supporting his daily routines, physical needs, and engagement
  • Embed developmental activities and learning into everyday play, including AAC communication, motor engagement, and skill-building
  • Provide light household support related to childcare (e.g., tidying, laundering)

You will work closely with parents and therapists, receive full training in our son’s medical and developmental needs, and play a key role in helping him reach his potential in a supportive, structured, and fun way.

Typical Schedule

Weekends:

  • Primarily Saturday and Sunday (hours arranged in advance)
  • One-to-one care focused on play, routines, and AAC-supported communication
  • Occasional light household tasks as needed

Weekday Afternoons:

  • School pickups and support with AAC/learning routines
  • Developmentally appropriate play and therapy follow-through
  • Engagement in skill-building activities designed to reinforce therapy goals

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experienced in SEN childcare, ideally with children with cerebral palsy or complex motor needs
  • Knowledgeable and confident in supporting communication via AAC
  • Warm, patient, empathetic, and child-focused
  • Energetic, proactive, and adaptable
  • Able to incorporate learning and skill-building into everyday play
  • Comfortable with light household duties related to childcare
  • Responsible, organised, and professional
  • Strong communication skills

Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Valid Enhanced DBS certificate
  • Paediatric First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • References from previous employers
  • Driving licence preferred but not essential

Why Join Us

This is a rewarding role where you will directly impact a child’s development and communication, working closely with parents and therapists in a supportive home environment. You will gain experience in SEN childcare, AAC support, and developmental learning, with flexibility and respect for your time.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £18.00-£20.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Free parking

Application question(s):

  • Are you familiar with supporting a child to communicate using AAC (e.g., eye gaze devices, switches, symbol boards)?
  • Are you comfortable assisting a child with physical disabilities, including support with mobility, transfers, or posture?
  • Can you commit to working weekend days and a few weekday afternoons, as required?

Experience:

  • working with children with special educational needs (SEN): 1 year (preferred)
