About the Role

We are looking for a friendly, organised, and motivated Accounts Assistant to join our busy accountancy practice in Chesham. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with accounting experience who enjoys working as part of a close-knit team and providing excellent service to clients.

This is a fully office-based role. We are looking for someone who is reliable, personable, and happy to work collaboratively with colleagues in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bookkeeping for a variety of clients using Xero and other accounting software.
  • Processing sales invoices, purchase invoices, and bank transactions.
  • Bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Assisting with VAT return preparation and submissions.
  • Supporting the preparation of management accounts, year-end accounts, and tax returns.
  • Liaising with clients by telephone and email to obtain information and answer queries.
  • Maintaining client records and ensuring all work is completed accurately and on time.
  • Providing general administrative support to the accounts team as required.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Bookkeeper, or similar accounting role.
  • Experience using Xero and Microsoft Excel.
  • Good understanding of bookkeeping principles and accounting procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Friendly, professional, and able to work well within a team.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

  • This is an office-based role only.
  • Remote or hybrid working is not available.
  • Applicants must have the unrestricted right to work in the United Kingdom.
