Our Role
To lead and co-ordinate Home Design to deliver creative, distinctive and commercially successful products that reflect our brand ethos and are aligned with the commercial direction of the business.
This role sits cross-functionally across Research & Development and Home Buying, playing a critical role in translating seasonal creative direction (White Print) into clear, actionable product development. Acting as the key bridge between teams, this role will ensure creative intent is protected from concept through to production to support the commercial success of the area.
This role will drive the creation of an elevated aesthetic, meaningful newness, superior and consistent quality and differentiation in the Home market, supporting the long-term brand equity of The White Company.
What you'll be doing
Contribute to product concept generation at White Print stage, (business seasonal direction) ensuring a strong pipeline of innovative and differentiated ideas for Home.
Translate the ‘White Print’ and seasonal direction into clear, structured design and product development briefs for Buying teams and suppliers, ensuring design intent, quality expectations and commercial parameters are clearly defined.
Act as the key bridge between Research & Development and Home Buying, ensuring seamless collaboration and alignment throughout the product lifecycle.
Collaborate closely with Buying, Merchandising and Product Technical teams to ensure all design development is commercially viable, sourceable and aligned with overall quality expectations.
Define product specifications including materials, finishes and print placements to ensure clarity for suppliers.
Produce accurate, print-ready artwork and technical design packs, ensuring consistency and precision for supplier execution.
Review samples, ensuring alignment with design intent, quality standards and brand expectations, providing clear feedback and direction.
Maintain an in-depth understanding of the Home market, customer needs, competitor landscape and emerging trends, leveraging insight to drive innovation and differentiation.
Ensure trends are translated into commercially successful products, balancing creativity with profitability and business strategy.
Collaborate on final range sign-off, challenging that collections deliver sufficient newness, progression and alignment with the White Print and brand vision.
Identify key product stories and hero items to support commercial planning, storytelling and customer engagement.
Oversee colour palettes, materials and finishes, ensuring consistency, continuity and alignment with best-selling product strategies.
Set and manage the design critical path, ensuring timelines support quality design development and on-time delivery.
Manage design budgets and cost centres effectively, resources are optimised while maintaining creative excellence.
Develop the freelance designers, fostering a collaborative, high-performance network that delivers the brand aesthetic while optimising budgets and efficiency.
Work cross-functionally to deliver a coherent brand story through product, ensuring alignment across design, buying, marketing and creative teams, supporting with business presentations.
What skills & experience you’ll need
Significant experience in home product design and development (e.g. interiors, textiles, home accessories and furniture).
Highly hands-on designer with the ability to own and execute design work end-to-end within a fast-paced, lean environment.
Strong understanding of materials, textiles, finishes and manufacturing processes within the Home category.
Proven track record of delivering design-led, commercially successful products from concept through to production.
Ability to translate creative direction into clear, structured briefs for cross-functional teams and suppliers.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Deep understanding of customer needs, market trends and competitor landscape within the Home & Fragrance sector.
Strong creative vision with the ability to translate trends into commercially successful product.
Strategic thinker with an innovative, forward-looking mindset.
Highly organised, able to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign); CAD/3D knowledge beneficial.
