Job Opportunity: Café & Events Assistant Manager

About the Role

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Assistant Manager to support the day-to-day running of The Cavendish Café at the Ray Dolby Centre, Cambridge.

Working closely with the General Manager, you’ll help lead the team, maintain excellent customer service and ensure the café operates efficiently. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys hospitality, takes pride in high standards and is always willing to go the extra mile.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the General Manager with daily café operations and deputise when required.
  • Supervise and support the front-of-house team, ensuring smooth and efficient service.
  • Monitor stock, place supplier orders, rotate products and minimise waste.
  • Help maximise sales through great service, upselling and effective product presentation.
  • Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, cleanliness and presentation.
  • Handle customer enquiries and resolve any concerns professionally.
  • Support team training and contribute to a positive working environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • At least two years’ experience in a café or similar hospitality environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A positive, energetic and hands-on approach.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude and a genuine passion for customer service.
  • A “can’t do enough to please” approach to customers and colleagues.

Working Hours & Location

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00.

Location: The Cavendish Café, Ray Dolby Centre, JJ Thompson Avenue, Cambridge.
