Full job description
Medical Education Content and Programme Coordinator (Doctor)
Salary: £32,000 per year
About the role
BETAR (https://www.bromleyemergency.com/) delivers five examination-preparation programmes for doctors taking Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) examinations. These include in-person teaching, webinars and online self-study resources.
We are seeking a highly organised doctor to coordinate the development and maintenance of our learning materials. These include self-assessment questions, webinars, videos and materials for practical clinical examinations known as Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).
The postholder will coordinate clinical content contributors and senior reviewers, undertake appropriate initial clinical and editorial review, maintain an efficient production pipeline and ensure that approved materials progress promptly to website publication. The role also involves identifying curriculum gaps, outdated content and priorities for new development.
A proportion of the postholder’s time will be spent supporting practical point-of-care ultrasound teaching and course delivery. However, educational-content coordination is the principal purpose of the post, and applicants should be interested in developing this aspect of their work.
Key responsibilities
- Contributor coordination: Agree priorities and deadlines with clinical subject-matter contributors, encourage regular submissions, and follow up incomplete or overdue work.
- Clinical and editorial review: Check materials for clinical accuracy, completeness, clarity and compliance with BETAR’s standards, within the limits of the postholder’s expertise. Arrange senior review where necessary and ensure that feedback is acted upon.
- Curriculum coverage: Map resources against the relevant curricula, identify gaps or duplication, and commission new material according to agreed priorities.
- Content updating: Monitor curriculum and clinical-guidance changes, learner feedback and information about examination developments. Identify affected materials and coordinate their review, revision or retirement.
- Publishing workflow: Track materials from initial commission through review and revision to final website publication.
- Systems and AI: Use spreadsheets, databases and AI-assisted tools to organise content, monitor progress and support initial review, while checking outputs and referring uncertain clinical aspects appropriately.
- Ultrasound teaching: Support faculty and learners during practical point-of-care ultrasound courses and scanning sessions.
- Course delivery: Help prepare teaching materials, ultrasound equipment and simulators, and contribute to the smooth delivery of courses and other educational events.
Essential requirements
- Medical qualification.
- Experience coordinating projects, educational activities, content or work involving several contributors.
- Evidence of following work through to completion and addressing incomplete or delayed contributions.
- Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to give constructive feedback professionally.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Confident use of spreadsheets, databases or project-tracking systems.
- High attention to detail and an ability to identify omissions, inconsistencies and potentially outdated clinical information.
- A proactive, encouraging and persistent approach.
- Appropriate and critical use of AI-assisted tools, including verification of outputs.
- The right to work in the United Kingdom.
Desirable requirements
- Experience in UK emergency medicine or acute care.
- Experience in medical education, e-learning or professional examination preparation.
- Experience developing or reviewing single-best-answer questions or other assessment materials.
- Familiarity with RCEM curricula and MRCEM or FRCEM examinations.
- Experience developing or reviewing OSCE materials, webinars, presentations or educational videos.
- Experience teaching point-of-care ultrasound.
- Familiarity with online learning platforms or content-management systems.
