ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER

Location: The Blackhorse, Gozzards Ford, OX13 6JH
Hours: 42 hours per week
Salary: Competitive salary + high tronc/tips
Key Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a busy, high-quality restaurant or gastropub
  • Previous experience in similar leadership role
  • Proven ability to lead FOH teams during busy services.
  • Strong passion for fresh, high-quality food and standards
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills
  • Knowledge of FOH health & safety and food hygiene standards

About the Role

One of Oxford’s most popular pub companies is expanding its team, and an exciting opportunity has arisen to join The Blackhorse as a Assistant General Manager

This role is ideal for a supervisor, bar or restaurant manager looking to take the next step in their career, with a clear pathway to developing their skills in the position.

Working closely with the General Manager, you will support and lead the day-to-day running of the pub, lead services, maintain standards, and provide excellent customer service to all guests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the General Manager & senior management team in the daily management of the pub.
  • Lead pub operations and manage busy services confidently
  • Provide cover for the General Manager during absence
  • Maintain consistently high drinks quality and presentation standards
  • Train, mentor, and develop junior staff
  • Ensure health, safety, and food hygiene standards are maintained at all times

What We’re Looking For:

  • Current or previous experience in a busy, high-end pub or restaurant environment
  • Minimum 3 years’ leadership role experience
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and work within a team
  • Passionate about delivering excellent customer service experiences.
  • Positive, proactive, and professional attitude
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced pub.
  • Adaptable communicator who works well with both FOH teams and senior management
