Main Purpose of the Role:
The Deputy Manager will support the Registered Manager in leading and managing the children’s home according to the ethos and approach of the organisation, ensuring that outcomes and high-quality care are delivered through the ongoing professional development of the team according to the home’s statement of purpose and in line with the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015.
- Provide the Registered Manager with managerial support in all areas of the everyday running of the home.
- Ensure that safeguarding is of the highest priority whilst promoting the welfare and development of our children/young people.
- To be responsible for effective day to day running of the residential home in the absence of the homes manager, including all aspects of the premises
- To be responsible for a team of adults, providing effective supervision and overseeing work allocations
- Undertake direct work with children and young people, and strive to provide the best experience possible for the children/young people - enabling, engaging and empowering them to achieve their aspirations
- Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people, adults, their families and visitors, complying with safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times and promoting an honest and open culture in the home.
- To ensure that the children and young people’s needs are recognised and met where possible. This includes ensuring that they are free from discrimination within the home and to challenge discrimination from outside of the home.
- To ensure that the home meets the individual needs of the young people as well as the needs of the group.
- Create and maintain an environment that is safe, nurturing and sensitive to the needs of the children and young people being looked after.
- Support the Home Manager to ensure policies, procedures work practices and instructions are implemented and followed to the highest standards.
- Lead shifts and effectively role model to both the children/young people and the adults.
- Support the Registered Manager with the recruitment of adults ensuring that Safer Recruitment guidelines are followed at all times.
- Assist with the induction of new staff, providing training and mentoring support.
- To complete on call duties when required in line with the management rota.
- Work both shift and administrative hours, being flexible to support the home where needed.
- Liaise with families and health and social care professionals involved in the care of each child/young person, keeping them up to date and informed of progress in a way that is appropriate for them and their needs.
- Attend meetings around the children/young people and effectively advocate for them.
- Follow internal complaints and safeguarding procedures to ensure the safety of each child/young person and as directed by the Registered Manager, or in their absence liaise with the Head of Operations / Responsible Individual and follow direction which may include, investigation and report as appropriate, any complaints or child protection concerns raised.
Essential
· At least 2 years experience working in a management/senior care worker position within a children's residential setting. Preferably with children with emotional behavioural difficulties and carrying out management/supervisory tasks
· Hold a level 3 diploma in residential childcare (or equivalent)
. Have a good working knowledge of The Childrens Homes Regulations including the Quality Standards and be able to support the Registered Manager in ensuring the home is always Ofsted ready.
· A passion for, and a commitment to, providing excellent care and quality, both in terms of service delivery and outcomes for children and young people
· The ability to promote a positive culture of high performance through supportive and nurturing leadership
· To safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and be aware of relevant policies and procedures.
· To ensure that all adults are familiar with and follow Local Authority Child Protection Procedures alongside Pathway’s policies and procedures
· The ability to inspire and motivate a team of adults, ensuring that all adults act in a professional manner.
· Excellent communication skills
· Demonstrable ability to problem solve and manage effectively in a crisis
· A high level of numeracy, literacy and digital skills
· Ability to support a learning culture of continuous improvement and development with a strong focus on best practice
· Ability to acknowledge, celebrate and share success
· A full driving licence
Desirable
· Hold the level 5 diploma in leadership and management for residential childcare or a willingness to work towards this
