Full job description

The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways are at the heart of the picturesque Snowdonia National Park and a major tourist attraction in North Wales. A significant local employer, we are committed to increasing diversity within our workforce and to providing an inclusive working environment for all.

We are recruiting for an experienced professional administrator to run the General Manager’s Office, act as PA to the General Manager, and provide administrative support to the Trust and Board of Directors.

We can offer you:

  • £33,500 per annum pro rata, dependant on experience
  • Permanent contract to start August 2026
  • Flexible hours; approx. 30 to 40 hours per week within normal office hours, exact working pattern to suit candidate
  • The pro rata equivalent of 28 days paid holiday, inclusive of all bank and public holidays
  • Enrolment into the company pension scheme after a qualifying period
  • Travel benefits on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways and staff discounts in shops and cafes.

The successful candidate will provide administrative support to the General Manager and the Board of Directors as required, ensuring that all day-to-day administration, organisational and research tasks are undertaken as required. Key duties will include the organising of special corporate functions, providing the secretarial function for meetings, liaising on the design and production of corporate literature and undertaking projects as directed by the General Manager.

Core Skills:

  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with demonstratable experience working at a senior level
  • Educated in a relevant subject to advanced level, or equivalent professional experience
  • Highly proficient and professional work ethic
  • Must be able to work with discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • A flexible, proactive approach to work, including the ability to prioritise and the ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Friendly, approachable and with excellent communication skills on all levels
  • Excellent IT skills, including familiarity with all Office based programmes and an awareness of changing IT and systems development
  • Excellent English oral and written communication and analytical skills
  • The ability to communicate in Welsh would be an advantage for this post, however Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
