Full job description

We are ideally looking for a candidate with previous horticultural experience, a passion for plants and a keen interest in wildlife to join our team of Gardeners who looks after the stunning Parkgate House. Must be reliable, hardworking and physically fit.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work outdoors with highly experienced horticulturists practicing wildlife friendly techniques in a really beautiful environment.

Job Purpose

As a Temporary gardener, you will be working ‘hands-on’ with a small team of gardeners to provide a top-class horticultural environment for our clients. As an integral part of the garden team, you will also be expected to operate the required tools and machinery, check the health of plants by identifying pests and/or diseases, strimming, mulching, weeding, spraying, shrub pruning and general gardening.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine garden maintenance tasks with precision and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate expertise in diagnosing and addressing various gardening issues.
  • Effectively communicate with clients to understand their preferences and requirements.
  • Supervise and manage assistant gardeners, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Utilize and maintain a range of gardening equipment, including lawn mowers, strimmers, and hedge cutters.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of plants, enabling the ability to prune, weed, and maintain borders with excellence.
  • Contribute to the improvement of existing gardens and recommend suitable plants for enhancement.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Proven ability to work independently and show initiative in maintaining gardens.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with clients and manage a team of assistant gardeners.
  • Proficient in the use of common gardening tools and equipment.
  • In-depth plant knowledge and the ability to recommend plants for various garden settings.
  • Strong organisational skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Must have a clean driving license
