Full job description
· Work in conjunction with the Senior Practitioner to manage an allocated caseload as directed by the manager.
· Produce and maintain accurate summary information on general case-load to aid level of response and accountability.
· Keep abreast of transitional periods and advise relevant departments of the need to prepare for 18+ and 20 + year milestones.
· Work as part of an Active team where directed
· Build and maintain positive, appropriate working relationships with the young people we support.
· Take part in a weekly Duty system.
· Prepare for and attend Statutory and other meetings around the needs of the people we support.
· Take part in home visits to ensure safeguards and quality.
· Take part in out-of-hours on-call cover as required.
· Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team including health, social services to continue the development of support and advocacy for UASC (Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children).
· Maintain and develop strong links with social services case managers other support providers to establish mechanisms for consultation with individuals and groups , in order to ensure concerns are being addressed.
· To participate in all training relevant to UASC.
· Play a part in maintaining a database of information held on UASC to ensure accurate record keeping and help us to adhere to codes and guidelines of confidentiality.
· Maintain the need for strict confidentiality and sensitivity in all areas of work.
· Provide a link between UASC and other various local support services which enables access to relevant support and expertise and to explore new sources of useful support.
· In collaboration with other service providers continually review and assess the development of work with UASC.
· Identifying suitable and appropriate language provisions.
· Referral for and monitoring of English language training and other educational opportunities.
· Orientation and guidance for people settling in a new area.
· Identifying, sourcing and referring to health and social care providers.
· Enabling access and referral to advice, support and counselling (where appropriate) for the victims of racial harassment and/or intimidation.
· Identifying, sources and referral to additional training and education services .
· Identifying financial difficulties and referral for advice and guidance
· Identifying and referral to social and cultural support, where appropriate.
· Accessing and referral to life skills programmes, particularly for those newly settling.
· Provision and welfare rights information to service users ensuring they are in receipt of their entitlements acting as a advocate and assisting them in making plans and informed decisions.
· Prepare and deliver reports as directed by the role.
· Contribute to work related company activities & events as directed
· To undertake such other duties as maybe required from time to time in relation to UASC.
Person Specification
· Good experience of using a range of PC applications including MS Work, Excel, Powerpoint.
· Knowledge of black and minority ethnic issues.
· Knowledge of laws related to UASC.
· Knowledge of statutory duties to USAC.
· Experience of working in a multi-cultural team.
· Team working experience.
· Working with children & Families.
· Report writing and Keeping case-notes.
· Cultural sensitivity.
· Commitment to black and minority ethnic people.
· Commitment to equal opportunities.
· Prejudice faced by Asylum seekers and Refugees in the U.K.
