Full job description

We are looking for a passionate, practical and flexible Café & Production Kitchen Chef to join our food team at Peterley Manor Farm.

This is a varied role working across both our Barn Kitchen café and our Production Kitchen, helping us deliver great seasonal food to customers across the business.

One day you may be supporting a busy breakfast and lunch service in the Barn Kitchen; another you could be producing cakes, bakes, salads, savoury dishes and other homemade food for our award-winning Farm Shop and Deli.

Flexibility is key. We are looking for someone who enjoys variety, is happy to work wherever they are most needed and takes pride in producing consistently excellent food whether it is being served immediately in the café or made for our retail counters.

The Role

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working as part of the kitchen team to deliver breakfast and lunch services in the Barn Kitchen
  • Preparing and cooking seasonal dishes to a consistently high standard
  • Working within our Production Kitchen to produce homemade food for the Farm Shop and Deli
  • Producing cakes, bakes, savoury items, salads and other seasonal deli products
  • Supporting the development of new products and seasonal ranges
  • Making the most of produce grown in our Kitchen Garden and ingredients sourced from the Farm Shop
  • Ensuring recipes, portion sizes and presentation are consistent
  • Helping to maintain appropriate production levels and availability across the café and deli
  • Working efficiently and minimising food waste wherever possible
  • Maintaining excellent food hygiene, food safety and kitchen cleanliness standards
  • Moving between the Barn Kitchen and Production Kitchen according to the needs of the business
  • Supporting other areas of the food operation during particularly busy periods

Who We're Looking For

This role would suit someone who:

  • Has previous professional kitchen experience
  • Is a confident and capable cook with strong basic kitchen skills
  • Enjoys both service and production cooking
  • Has an interest in seasonal, homemade food and quality ingredients
  • Is organised and able to work efficiently without compromising quality
  • Is comfortable working independently as well as part of a wider kitchen team
  • Is adaptable and genuinely happy working across different areas of the business
  • Takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness, organisation and presentation
  • Has a positive, hands-on attitude and is willing to get stuck in wherever needed

Hours & Pay

  • £13.71 per hour
  • Tronc payable on eligible Barn Kitchen café shifts
  • Approximately 30–40 hours per week
  • Hours will vary according to the needs of the business, and flexibility across days, hours and working areas is essential
  • The role will be split between the Barn Kitchen and Production Kitchen, with the balance varying depending on service, production and seasonal requirements

About Our Food

Our approach is centred around seasonal, farm-to-fork food.

We work closely with our Kitchen Garden team to make use of produce grown here on the farm, alongside ingredients sourced through our Farm Shop, local suppliers and our own butchery and deli.

We want our Production Kitchen to be an extension of this ethos – creating genuinely good homemade food for customers to enjoy both in the Barn Kitchen and at home.

This is a great opportunity for a chef who enjoys variety and wants to work somewhere that goes beyond a traditional café or restaurant kitchen.
