We are looking for a creative, flexible, and highly organised careers guidance professional with a Level 6 in Careers Education, Information and Guidance.

The Connexions Service is the lead agency in the City of Wolverhampton supporting young people through their transition to adult life and focussing on their progression to education, employment or training. The service is targeted at those most at risk of becoming NEET and those who are NEET and within this group those from key vulnerable groups’ i.e. young offenders, LAC, homeless, teenage parents and young people with SEND. The service works with the young people to help them to identify and assess the impact of the barriers to their progression and uses solution focussed interventions to enable young people to achieve their potential.
The service also provides careers information, advice, guidance, and support to young people 13-19 [up to 25 for those young people with special educational needs or disabilities] to help them make informed choices about learning, employment and training and has a statutory responsibility to support the participation in learning of all young people until their 18th birthday.

Working in a range of settings such as schools, the Local Authority setting and, in the community, the Careers Advisor will manage a caseload of young people and will provide careers information, advice and guidance to enable young people to develop career management skills and make informed choices about learning and work, and support them through transition to post school education, employment and training.

The Careers Advisor will help young people evaluate their progress and achievement and will write individual action plans or Career Pathway Plans to track progress and development. They will also contribute to the reviews of young people with Education, Health and Care Plans for those young people with SEND.

The role also requires the ability to advocate for those young people who have additional and significant needs to help them address barriers and make well informed choices about their future education, training and employment plans. An awareness of the barriers faced by those special educational needs and those young people using augmentative and alternative communication methods would be advantageous.

We are looking for someone who has experience of working with our most Vulnerable cohorts such as those with SEND.

Our working arrangements

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empower employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocated where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.

Please refer to the Job Description for further information on the workstyle assigned to the role you are applying for.
