Full job description

About the Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced, suitably qualified Psychologist or Allied Health Professional to join our small team on a flexible, self-employed basis, contributing to autism assessments for children and young people in Northern Ireland.

This is an excellent opportunity for a clinician who already works in the NHS, independent practice, education or another clinical setting and would like to undertake a small amount of additional work alongside their existing commitments.

The role requires only a few hours per month initially with the potential for additional work as the service develops.

We are particularly interested in hearing from qualified Psychologists, although applications from other appropriately trained and experienced healthcare professionals are very welcome.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake components of autism assessments for children and young people using the ADI-R and/or ADOS-2, depending on qualifications and training.
  • Conduct structured clinical interviews and/or direct observational assessments.
  • Provide clear, accurate clinical findings and written assessment summaries.
  • Work collaboratively with other clinicians as part of a multidisciplinary autism assessment pathway.
  • Contribute to clinical discussions and diagnostic formulation where appropriate to professional competence.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical practice, confidentiality and professional record-keeping.

Essential Requirements

  • A recognised professional qualification in Psychology or a relevant allied health profession.
  • Appropriate current professional registration, such as HCPC registration, where applicable.
  • Formal training and demonstrated competence in administering the ADI-R and/or ADOS-2.
  • Experience working with children and young people with autism or other neurodevelopmental difference.
  • A sound understanding of autism assessment and relevant NICE guidance.
  • Excellent communication, clinical reasoning and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience undertaking autism diagnostic assessments within NHS or independent services.
  • Training and experience in both ADI-R and ADOS-2.
  • Experience contributing to multidisciplinary diagnostic decision-making.
  • Experience assessing children and young people with complex developmental presentations.

What We Offer

  • A small and friendly team!
  • Highly flexible working: A small number of hours per month, arranged around your availability.
  • Hybrid working: Opportunities for remote assessment components, with occasional face-to-face appointments where required.
  • Ideal alongside existing employment: Suitable for clinicians looking to supplement their current role without committing to regular weekly hours.
  • Autonomy: Work on a self-employed freelance basis with mutually agreed appointments.
  • Collaborative approach: The opportunity to contribute your specialist skills within a supportive autism assessment service.
  • Potential to grow: Opportunity for additional assessment work as demand increases.

Interested?

We would love to hear from you!

Please apply with a brief CV outlining your professional qualifications, ADI-R and/or ADOS-2 training, relevant assessment experience and general availability. We will arrange an informal chat with suitable applicants.

We welcome enquiries from clinicians who may only have limited availability each month.

Pay: £70.00-£100.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Work from home

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Newtownabbey
