Join a dynamic secondary school team where your passion for supporting young people will make a real difference in creating an inclusive learning environment.

Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting students with behavioural challenges, helping to create an inclusive and positive learning environment where every child can thrive. This position involves working closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to provide targeted interventions and support for students experiencing behavioural issues. This role will start on 2nd September 2024.

About the School:

Located in the heart of the community in Nottingham City. This Secondary School is committed to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. Their diverse student body benefits from a broad and balanced curriculum, innovative teaching practices, and a strong focus on individual student growth. With a dedicated staff, excellent facilities, and a supportive community, this school is a place where both students and staff feel motivated and inspired.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with behavioural difficulties
  • Implement and monitor individualised behaviour support plans
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to develop strategies that address classroom behavioural challenges
  • Assist in creating a positive school environment by promoting positive behaviour and social interactions
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents
  • Support the emotional and social development of students, helping them to build resilience and self-esteem
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities

Role Detail:

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work directly with students who exhibit challenging behaviours, including but not limited to, ADHD, ASD, ODD, and anxiety-related issues. You will use evidence-based strategies and interventions to support these students in overcoming barriers to learning and achieving their personal and academic goals. Your role will also involve close collaboration with teachers to adapt learning materials and approaches to meet the individual needs of students.

  • ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder): Students may display symptoms such as inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsivity
  • ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder): Students may experience difficulties with social interaction, communication, and repetitive behaviours
  • ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder): Students may exhibit a pattern of angry or irritable moods, argumentative behaviour, and defiance
  • Anxiety Disorders: Students may experience excessive fear, worry, or nervousness that can impact their daily functioning

Learning barriers to be demolished:

  • Social Barriers: Helping students develop better social skills and relationships with peers and teachers
  • Emotional Barriers: Supporting students in managing their emotions and developing coping strategies
  • Academic Barriers: Assisting students in accessing the curriculum and achieving their academic potential through tailored support and interventions
  • Behavioural Barriers: Implementing positive behaviour strategies to reduce disruptive behaviours and enhance learning engagement

We are looking for an individual with a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people, excellent communication skills, and the ability to remain patient and calm in challenging situations. If you are committed to helping students overcome behavioural challenges and succeed in their education, we would love to hear from you.
