An extremely busy and well-established Sign Company based in Leicester, Alpen Signs are now recruiting for an experienced Head Sign Fitter (Sign Fitter, Shop Fitter & Signage Installer) to join our busy installation team.
This role requires flexibility as unsociable hours are often required. You will be working at customer sites around the UK so a good attitude as well as appearance is essential in this demanding role.
Unsociable hours, including early starts and weekend work, overnight stays, working with power tools and working at heights are all part of this busy role. You will need a full clean Driving Licence in order to apply.

Job Summary
- Travel to client sites within the British Isles with occasional overnight stays
- Carry out survey of site taking measurements and considering access and egress as well as suitable installation methods.
- Interpret survey specifications and following the directions given in worksheets
- Remove existing signage in a safe and considerate manner
- Assemble and secure components together to form signs
- Use a selection of hand and power tools
- Work at height using a variety of scaffold and ladder types
- Work safely at height following the company safe working practices
- Ensure the safety of self, colleagues and members of the public during all works
- Apply graphics and vinyls as required
- Work closely with networks and professionals who perform other aspects of work during any shop fitting process e.g. plumbers and electricians
- Carry out on site maintenance work on existing signs
- Assist in the installation of awnings and roller shutter doors as required
- Provide on the job training for Fitters Mate including supervision and mentoring
Qualities and Abilities
- Interpret plans and diagrams
- Manage testing and fault diagnosis
- Check safety of high-voltage neon installations
- Manage Technicians and Fitters to a maintenance schedule.
- Good practical skills including good hand-eye coordination
- Experienced in using a variety of hand and power tools
- Have an eye for detail
- Be able to take accurate measurements and calculate quantities of materials
- Have a good level of concentration for cutting and using tools safely and accurately
- Be able to follow technical drawings, plans and written or verbal instructions
- Able to work outdoors at heights
- Be physically and actively fit
- Have good communication skills in English both written and spoken
- Be able to deal effectively with clients and members of the public in a professional and calm manner
- Experienced in the use, light and heavy equipment, ladders and trailers
- Basic fabrication knowledge
- Able to form professional relationships in the role of mentor supervisor – motivating and supporting ‘fitters mate’ whilst providing training
- Awareness of safety issues surrounding sign installation (EU standards for wiring and high-voltage signs)
- An understanding of engineering drawings, working drawings and principles
- An awareness of Health and Safety Legislation
- Knowledge of Construction Management and Design (CMD) Regulations
Training and Qualifications
- Full Clean UK Driving License
- PASMA and IPAF training including Harness or all arrest equipment use
- CSCS (labourer level as a minimum)
- SPA card for petrol forecourts
- Asbestos Awareness with annual toolbox talks
- Basic Health and Safety including Ladder Safety, Manual Handling and First Aid
- Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations 2007 awareness
- DBS Check
