Eckoh is a market leader of Customer Engagement Security Solutions, supporting an international client base from our offices in the U.S. and the U.K. Eckoh is owned by Bridgepoint one of the world's leading private asset growth investors, with over $75 billion of assets under management.
Our mission is to set the standard for secure interactions between consumers and the world’s leading brands. Our innovative products build trust and deliver value through exceptional experiences.
As a PCI DSS Level 1 Service Provider, our products and expanding digital and conversational AI capabilities help enterprises protect sensitive data, improve customer experience, and modernise the way they operate. Our mission is to set the standard for secure interactions between consumers and the world’s leading brands. With a strong heritage in secure payments and an expanding portfolio of cloud native, omni-channel engagement solutions our vocation is simple: to make every customer interaction secure whether it is handled by a human agent or an AI agent, without ever compromising the customer experience.
Our large portfolio of clients, which includes many of the Fortune 250, come from a broad range of vertical markets including healthcare, retail, hospitality, financial services, and utilities.
What do we do?
Eckoh’s Customer Engagement Security Solutions help our clients to take payments and transact securely with their customers through all engagement channels. The solutions, which are delivered globally through our cloud platforms and protected by multiple patents, remove customer’s sensitive personal and payment data from client’s contact centres and IT environments. They provide merchants a simple and effective way to reduce the risk of fraud and data breaches, become compliant with security regulations, as well as enhancing their brand and increasing customer satisfaction.
The Role:
This is a senior technical leadership opportunity within Eckoh's TechOps team, who maintain responsibility for the 24/7 management and operations of Eckoh's secure, highly available, PCI-compliant AWS hosted platform that underpins Eckoh's mission-critical services.
As Principal Cloud Operations Engineer, you will be the most senior technical authority for platform and operations, setting the direction for how we operate, secure, and scale our cloud environments. You will also line manage and develop the Cloud Operations Engineering team, combining hands-on technical leadership with people leadership.
You will own service and security operations, platform reliability, observability, and availability at a strategic level - defining standards, driving continuous improvement, and championing a security-first, DevSecOps culture. While you will sit outside the day-to-day 24/7 on-call rotation, you will act as the senior point of escalation for major incidents and complex technical challenges.
Reporting to the Head of Cloud Operations, this role offers the chance to shape the future of Eckoh's cloud platform, grow a high-performing team, and drive real business benefit through system performance, scalability, resilience, and security.
Key Functional Responsibilities:
Technical & Team Leadership
· Line manage, mentor, and develop the team of Cloud Operations Engineers, supporting their performance, growth, and career development.
· Define the technical vision and framework for platform operations and architectural patterns and support adoption of those standards.
· Provide hands-on technical leadership – collaborating to guide architecture decisions, reviewing designs, and stepping in on the most complex problems.
· Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing across the team and wider engineering functions.
· Work closely with Technical Product Owners to define, plan, resource and deliver the agreed roadmap.
Platform Operations, Reliability & Availability
· Own the reliability, availability, scalability, and performance of Eckoh's production AWS platform.
· Architect and operate production workloads with a focus on high availability, resilience, and scalability across the estate.
· Define, measure, and drive key operational metrics (availability, MTTR, cost efficiency, performance) to meet and exceed platform KPIs.
· Drive observability and monitoring improvements across infrastructure, platforms, and services to proactively identify and resolve issues.
· Lead capacity planning, cost optimisation (FinOps), and continuous improvement of the platform.
Security, Compliance & DevSecOps
· Champion and embed a security-first, DevSecOps culture, ensuring best practices are followed at every stage of the software lifecycle.
· Ensure the platform remains secure and PCI-compliant, working closely with security and compliance teams.
· Apply and uphold relevant regulatory and compliance frameworks (e.g. PCI DSS, ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR) in platform design and operations.
Automation, IaC & Delivery
· Drive the evolution of infrastructure-as-code, and automation tooling to improve delivery speed, consistency, and reliability.
· Reduce operational toil through automation, self-service tooling, and standardisation.
· Design, build, and optimise a secure, PCI-compliant cloud platform on AWS to support enterprise-grade applications and services.
· Partner with development, data, and ML teams to enable the secure, reliable operation of AI-backed platform capabilities.
Incident Management & Escalation
· Act as the senior point of escalation for major incidents and complex operational issues, including out-of-hours where required.
· Lead incident retrospectives and drive the systemic improvements that prevent recurrence.
· Ensure robust runbooks, operational procedures, and documentation are maintained across the team.
Required skills and qualifications:
· Extensive (8+ years) experience in Site Reliability, DevOps, Platform, or Cloud Operations Engineering, operating mission-critical production platforms.
· Demonstrable experience leading and/or line managing a team of engineers, with a track record of developing talent.
· Deep expertise in AWS architecture and operations, including services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS, Route53, S3, IAM, and networking.
· Expert-level experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
· Proven expertise with containerization (Docker), server images (Packer), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
· Strong command of CI/CD pipelines and automation tooling (Gitlab experience preferable).
· Advanced proficiency with observability and monitoring solutions (e.g. CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk).
· Strong understanding of cloud security, DevSecOps, and compliance frameworks (PCI DSS, ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR).
· Experience operating or supporting AI/LLM or ML workloads in production (e.g. Bedrock, SageMaker, inference infrastructure).
· Proven ability to set technical direction, define standards, and drive operational excellence across a team.
· Confident conducting peer and design reviews and providing constructive technical feedback.
Desirables:
· Experience designing solutions in multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud environments.
· Advanced knowledge of Kubernetes networking and service mesh technologies (e.g. Istio, Calico).
· Exposure to Kafka and its ecosystem (Kafka Connect, ksqlDB).
· Expertise in debugging complex distributed systems.
· Familiarity with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle).
· Experience with AIOps tooling and ML-driven observability.
· Relevant AWS certifications (e.g. Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Engineer Professional).
AI & LLM Platform Operations
· Operate, scale, and secure the cloud infrastructure that underpins AI and LLM-enabled services (e.g. Amazon Bedrock, inference/GPU workloads).
· Ensure observability, cost control, reliability, and compliance for AI/LLM workloads running in production.
· Evaluate and adopt AIOps and ML-driven tooling to enhance monitoring, anomaly detection, and automated remediation.
